Coinbase Wallet has announced support for new features that will allow users to send and receive money across major social media apps. It’s like sending a text, the crypto platform noted.
Per a blog post update, Coinbase Wallet users can transfer money from anywhere in the world via a share link, with the instant transactions available across leading social media channels such as WhatsApp, Telegram and iMessage.
The transfers will also be possible through the wallet’s integration with Facebook, Snapchat, TikTok, and Instagram. Users can also send money through email on Coinbase Wallet, the company said, with transactions involving the USDC stablecoin at zero Coinbase fees.
Coinbase Wallet introduces “safe mode”
To enable the social media app functionality, Coinbase has introduced a “Simple Mode”, which is an optional feature that allows for basic transactions involving buying, sending, receiving, and storage of a wallet user’s digital assets.
Users will need access to Coinbase Wallet app – downloadable on iOS and Android – to access the money. When one clicks on the shared link, they will be directed to the wallet app which is where they can claim the funds sent to them.
According to Coinbase, funds that remain unclaimed for two weeks will “automatically be returned to the sender.”
The exchange says this will allow many beginners across the world to tap into crypto and its benefits.
This endeavour has seen the support for local fiat onramps on Coinbase Wallet expanded to include over 100 countries. Among notable payment methods the wallet supports are Pago Efectivo in Argentina, Pix in Brazil, and Instant P2P Bank in Nigeria.
