Jeffy Yu, the co-founder of the AI and blockchain project Zerebro, reportedly died by suicide on May 4, 2025.

The tragic incident occurred during a livestream on the platform Pump.fun. An obituary was published on Legacy.com confirming his death, though the page has since been removed.

A closer examination of on-chain data and recent developments paints a different picture. The timeline of events surrounding his death has raised suspicions of a manipulative operation, not an actual tragedy.

On-chain data Says Otherwise

Contrary to the rumours, on-chain data revealed that wallets linked to Yu were actively trading and burning tokens after his reported death. On May 4th, the memecoin named $LLJEFFY was launched at 05:25 AM UTC.

On the same day, Yu began a Pump.fun livestream at an undisclosed time. The move may have generated buzz around the token, attracting potential investors. Approximately 23 minutes after the token launch, rumours of Yu’s suicide began circulating on the social media platform X.

This timeline led to speculations that the rumours may have been planted to generate hype. Some believe it was an attempt to manipulate market sentiment around both Zerebro ($ZEREBRO) and $LLJEFFY.

Moreover, the creator wallet and multiple linked addresses begin trading and burning tokens. Typically, token burns can be used to generate the appearance of deflation and legitimacy, potentially attracting more traders.

Furthermore, the wallet address 5Ko12 sold over $170,000 of $ZEREBRO in multiple transactions. Notably, this wallet is believed to be linked to the $LLJEFFY creator. This connection suggests possible insider profiting from the confusion and attention generated by the rumours.

As expected, this on-chain evidence has caused many to question the legitimacy of the suicide claims, leading to widespread speculation.

Zerebro Founder’s Demise

Yu, who allegedly passed at the age of 22, was a computer science prodigy who enrolled at Stanford University at 15. He rose to prominence after co-launching Zerebro in late 2024.

The project quickly gained traction within the crypto industry, blending AI agent infrastructure with the memecoin craze. At its peak, Zerebro reached an $800 million market cap and was positioned alongside other AI-themed tokens as part of a broader speculative trend.

Earlier this year, the token began to lose momentum amid broader declines in AI token narratives. However, Yu remained publicly active, announcing new features and conducting user polls until his rumoured death.
