As bitcoin (BTC) nears $110,000, Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has increased its BTC holdings. The company has demonstrated a remarkable commitment to acquiring the largest crypto by market capitalization in recent times.
According to an official announcement, Metaplanet disclosed that it acquired 2,205 BTC, valued at over $240.3 million. The digital asset was purchased at an average of $108,000 per bitcoin.
Metaplanet Surpasses Tesla as Stock Rises
Notably, the latest purchase has further solidified the firm’s position as one of the major players in the crypto space. The publicly listed company holds the 5th position among companies that own BTC, surpassing prominent entities such as the manufacturing car giant Tesla, Coinbase, Semler Scientific, and GameStop Corp.
Following the substantial buy, Metaplanet’s stock surged 0.58%, trading at 1,554 yen ($10.70). Meanwhile, the company now holds a total of 15,555 BTC, worth over $1.6 billion. This increase comes as the digital asset shows strong signs of recovery, making impressive moves.
According to the announcement, from July 1 to July 7, 2025, the firm has achieved a BTC Yield of 15.1%. However, from April 1 to June 30, the company achieved a BTC Yield of 129.4%, which is relatively higher.
Metaplanet Targets 210,000 BTC Goal
Interestingly, Metaplanet’s aggressive purchases of BTC align with the company’s plan to significantly increase its holdings to 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027. As such, the investment firm has continually acquired bitcoin on a weekly basis.
Surprisingly, the firm’s BTC buying speed may indicate it has been in the crypto sector for a long time. Metaplanet began acquiring bitcoin in April 2024, with its first purchase of 117.7 BTC, valued at $7.19 million at the time. Since then, it has not slowed down in its buying spree.
Last week, the publicly listed company acquired 1,005 BTC, valued at approximately $108 million. The Japanese-based investment firm also aims to hold at least 1% of the total Bitcoin supply by the end of next year.
Over the years, other prominent companies have joined the bandwagon of BTC purchases. Last month, The Smart Web Company added 193.90 BTC to its holdings. The buy was valued at $20.7 million, bringing its total stash to 543.52 BTC.
New York Stock Exchange-listed company DDC Enterprise also revealed plans to acquire BTC worth $528. Additionally, the firm signed three securities purchase agreements. The move was made possible by several investors, including Anson Funds, Animoca Brands, Kenetic Capital, and QCP Capital.
