Ethereum News Today: Blockspace Launch, New EIP, ETH Staking Hits 34%

Ethereum's ecosystem is moving on several fronts at once this week. A new infrastructure company has launched with backing from major crypto investors, a treasury firm continues to stack staking rewards, BlackRock is preparing changes to make its spot ETH ETF cheaper to trade, developers are debating a proposal that could reshape validator economics, the network's staking ratio has hit an all-time high, and BlackRock is expanding tokenized money-market products onto Ethereum. Individually, each item is notable.

Together, they paint a picture of an ecosystem maturing on the infrastructure side while institutional players deepen their commitment. For ETH investors, understanding how these threads connect matters more than tracking any single headline.

Blockspace Launches to Strengthen Ethereum Infrastructure

A new company called Blockspace has officially launched, describing itself as a for-profit Ethereum infrastructure company focused on improving the economics, performance, and reliability of the out-of-protocol systems that handle the majority of Ethereum's transaction flow.

The launch follows a funding round led by BlueYard, with participation from ether.fi Ventures, SharpLink, Breed VC, Luganodes, Stakely, and other backers; the amount raised wasn't disclosed.

Blockspace's business model centers entirely on ETH: it earns rewards by running Validator and infrastructure services, then reinvests those rewards into more staking. To address centralization concerns that come with that flywheel, the company has committed to capping its total ETH holdings at 15% of the total stake.

Blockspace also plans to work alongside the independent Blockspace Forum, an open-source coordination effort for teams building across Ethereum's transaction pipeline. Stronger, more reliable infrastructure is widely seen as essential groundwork for Ethereum to support growing transaction demand as upgrades like ePBS approach.

SharpLink Earns 417 ETH as Institutional Staking Momentum Grows

SharpLink (Nasdaq: SBET), the second-largest Ethereum treasury company listed on Nasdaq, reported earning 417 ETH in staking rewards this week, bringing its cumulative staking rewards to 24,755 ETH. SharpLink's core strategy revolves around holding and staking ETH to generate consistent on-chain yield rather than relying solely on price appreciation.

Steady income like this reinforces the case for treasury companies holding ETH as a productive asset. As more publicly listed firms adopt similar strategies, it signals growing institutional comfort with Ethereum's validator rewards mechanics — a trend that could support long-term ETH demand as more supply gets locked into validator activity.

BlackRock Plans 3-for-1 ETHA Reverse Split in October

Bloomberg ETF analyst Eric Balchunas reported that BlackRock will carry out a 3-for-1 reverse stock split on its spot Ethereum ETF, ETHA, in October. The move is expected to push the share price from roughly $14 up to around $42, while narrowing the trading spread from about 7 basis points to roughly 2 basis points.

Balchunas noted that trading costs for regular users on crypto trading platforms are typically around 40 to 150 basis points, with fees for novice users often even higher.

That contrast highlights how competitive regulated ETF wrappers have become for accessing ETH exposure. Lower spreads reduce friction for institutional investors moving large positions, which can support deeper liquidity and easier price discovery for ETHA over time.

New Ethereum EIP Proposes Tapered Issuance Burn

A group of Ethereum developers has submitted a draft core EIP, "Tapered Issuance Burn," that would gradually burn a portion of validator rewards as the network-wide validator participation ratio rises. Under the proposal, once staked ETH reaches roughly 60.25 million — near 50% of total supply — issuance rewards tied to that growth would be fully offset, removing the incentive for staking to keep climbing.

An approximately 18-month transition period is built in to soften the impact on validator earnings. The draft has no formal EIP number yet and hasn't been confirmed for any upcoming network upgrade.

The proposal has already drawn pushback. Aave founder Stani Kulechov argued that capping rewards this way would make ETH yields unpredictable and less economically attractive, potentially discouraging institutional and retail stakers, weakening ETH-based DeFi lending markets, and pushing capital toward other yield-bearing assets. Whether or not it advances, the debate underscores how central staking economics have become to Ethereum's long-term design conversations.

Ethereum Staking Ratio Climbs to Record 34.4%

According to Token Terminal data, Ethereum's stakes ratio has climbed to 34.4%, a new all-time high, up steadily from 30.0% at the start of the year. A rising ratio generally reflects growing validator confidence and reduces circulating liquid supply, both of which are closely watched signals for network security and ETH's broader supply dynamics — and helps explain why proposals like Tapered Issuance Burn are gaining attention now.

BlackRock Expands Tokenization Efforts on Ethereum

BlackRock is tokenizing share classes of its European Institutional Cash Series money market funds, which represented $311 billion in assets as of June 30.

The onchain share classes are being issued on Ethereum in partnership with Kinexys by J.P. Morgan, which serves as the bridge between onchain activity and traditional fund registers.

Twelve tokenized share classes are involved, spanning euro, sterling, and U.S. dollar liquidity funds, each supporting 24/7 peer-to-peer transfers between approved investor wallets with near real-time onchain visibility.

The move follows closely on other recent tokenization announcements and reinforces Ethereum's position as a preferred settlement layer for traditional finance.

Why This Ethereum News Is Important for Crypto Traders

Taken together, this week's developments touch nearly every layer of the ecosystem: infrastructure improvements from Blockspace, deepening institutional adoption through SharpLink and BlackRock, rising participation, a maturing ETF market, and accelerating real-world asset tokenization.

Each trend has the potential to influence demand and market structure differently, from validator economics to institutional liquidity access. Traders should keep an eye on how the Tapered Issuance Burn debate evolves, whether ETHA's spread improvements draw more institutional flow, and whether staking participation continues its upward trajectory in the weeks ahead.

At the same time, developers are actively debating how staking economics should evolve as participation climbs toward historic levels.

Together, these developments reinforce Ethereum's position as the leading smart contract and tokenization platform, while creating new opportunities — and new questions — for investors to weigh going forward.
