Solana Mobile to Ship Seeker Phones in August, Introduces SKR Token

Solana’s latest mobile phone, Seeker, is scheduled to be shipped on August 4th. This comes around a year after thousands have preordered the crypto-centric mobile device. Solana Mobile, the tech firm behind the mobile device, has also announced various additions to the Seeker phone.

Solana Mobile Introduces SKR Tokens and TEEPIN

Solana Mobile revealed that the SKR token will become the native cryptocurrency for its ecosystem. Developers, hardware manufacturers, and users will receive the token to participate in the ecosystem. The announcement believes the digital asset will incentivize more individuals to join the bandwagon and preorder a Seeker phone.

The Seeker device also includes the Trusted Execution Environment Platform Infrastructure Network (TEEPIN). The development team states that this architecture will enhance the device’s security and trust. TEEPIN features three layers – hardware layer (which secures the crypto hardware with trust protocols), platform layer (which connects verified decentralized apps with authenticated users), and the verification layer (which fosters a decentralized trust network across devices and dApps).

Commenting on this initiative, Solana’s co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko said:

“TEEPIN represents the next evolution in mobile — a framework where trust isn’t granted by a central authority but verified through cryptography. By leveraging secure hardware that already exists on modern smartphones and governing access on-chain, we’re unlocking open innovation, platform ownership, and a decentralized future for mobile.”

The Solana Mobile team revealed that pre-orders are ongoing. Each Seeker device sells for $500, which excludes taxes.

Seeker vs. Saga

Solana’s mobile phone journey began in 2022 when it revealed its Chapter 1 called Saga. The device’s price tag was dropped from $1,000 to $599 as it did not garner the expected attention.

A watershed moment for the Solana Mobile journey was after Saga holders were airdropped Bonk, a dog-themed Solana-based memecoin. These tokens eventually garnered so much attention that holders netted profits that overshadowed the amount they paid for the phone.

After Solana Mobile publicized the Seeker device, it captured massive attention as thousands hurried to preorder the Web3 mobile device. Throughout the Solana Breakpoint event last year, the Seeker maker downsized the preorder amount to $450, which didn’t sit well with those placed an order at $500. The Seeker device entered testing earlier this year.

Presently, over 150,000 units of the Web3 mobile phone have been preordered.
