Solana Shorts Look Crowded: Is SOL Rebound Priced In?

Solana (SOL) & Hyperliquid (HYPE) sit near the top of that list, according to liquidation heat maps and recent on-chain activity that suggest the next leg could be dictated as much by derivatives pressure as by fundamentals.

In Solana’s (SOL) case, Coinglass liquidation data highlighted a heavy cluster of short risk above current levels. One logical scenario outlined by market watchers is that shorts could face as much as $680 million in liquidations if SOL trades back to $96 this week.

The setup is being reinforced by two data points bulls keep returning to: exchange flows and DEX activity.

After March 17, Solana’s exchange flows reportedly flipped to net outflows, with daily outflows reaching roughly 700,000 SOL—often read as holders moving coins off venues where they can be quickly sold.

Over the past week, Solana DEX volume was also cited as jumping 103% to about $138.4 billion, the strongest reading in around a year.

Hyperliquid’s structure looks similar, just smaller in dollar terms. Market connoisseurs tracking HYPE’s liquidation map argue that if the token pushes above $42, short liquidations could top $60 million.

Hyperliquid also has a catalyst that isn’t strictly “crypto beta.”

Its HIP-3 market—which enables trading tied to assets like oil, metals, and stock indices—was cited at roughly $14.39 billion in seven-day volume, with open interest around $1.73 billion at press time.

Some seasoned market researchers think HYPE’s next decisive move may hinge on whether that 24/7, non-crypto exposure keeps attracting flow as geopolitical tension remains a background driver.

For traders, the near-term question is straightforward: do these coins grind higher and trigger cascading buy-to-cover, or do they fail at nearby resistance and validate the recent wave of short-selling?

The takeaway for crypto investors is less about calling an “alt season” and more about respecting positioning.

When liquidation clusters get this lopsided, price can move faster than narratives—especially in high-liquidity names like SOL and fast-growing venues like Hyperliquid.
