The cryptocurrency market was in the red on Friday, with Bitcoin (BTC) slipping below the $87,000-mark.
Solana (SOL) and XRP registered sharper declines.
The global crypto market cap stands at $2.83 trillion, down 1.01% in the last 24 hours.
Trading volume over the same period has fallen 5.99% to $73.67 billion.
Bitcoin (BTC) price today
Bitcoin traded at $86,809.34, down close to 1% in the past 24 hours.
The coin’s 24-hour trading range was between $85,837.93 and $87,711.99.
Bitcoin’s dominance has edged up 0.12% to 60.85%.
Crypto analytics platform Lookonchain, citing Arkham Intelligence data, reported a series of transactions tied to the US government.
On March 28, the government moved 97 Bitcoin (BTC) worth $8.46 million and 884 Ethereum (ETH) valued at $1.77 million.
Historically, large government-led transfers have put pressure on crypto prices.
In December 2024, a $1.9 billion Bitcoin movement to Coinbase Prime triggered a 5% decline over three days, according to OneSafe.
Similar selloffs followed government transactions in April, June, and August, though Bitcoin has consistently rebounded.
Ethereum (ETH) price today
Ethereum price slid back below the $2,000 mark on Friday.
The token was down around 1.7% to trade at $1,997.85.
The intraday low and high were $1,987.72 and $2,035.80.
Cryptocurrency analyst Mister Crypto noted that retail interest in ETH remains “extremely low,” based on Google Trends data.
Compared to its peaks in 2017 and 2021, current sentiment is significantly weaker, suggesting that many retail investors are staying on the sidelines.
Historically, low retail sentiment has often signaled a prime buying opportunity for institutions looking to accumulate before the next rally.
While small investors show hesitation, larger players tend to capitalize on such conditions, positioning themselves ahead of potential bullish cycles.
XRP and SOL price today
XRP price was down over 3%, trading at $2.30 after hitting an intraday high of $2.38.
Solana (SOL) registered an over 2% decline to $136.37.
The coin hit an intraday low of $135.92 and a high of $139.86.
