Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has warned users about fraudulent cryptocurrency giveaways appearing on Input Output Group’s compromised YouTube channel. According to Hoskinson’s X post, unauthorized parties apparently accessed the account and began broadcasting deceptive videos featuring his manipulated image.

He explained that IOG was working with YouTube to remove the content and reset the channel’s credentials. Additionally, Hoskinson urged users to distrust every video and avoid opening links displayed through the affected account.

IOG issued a separate security notice directing community members to avoid its YouTube channel until the team restored control. The organization also warned users against scanning QR codes, sending cryptocurrency, or providing personal information through connected websites.

One reported livestream featured an AI-generated version of Hoskinson promoting a supposed cryptocurrency giveaway during a fabricated Project Catalyst town hall.

Viewers received instructions to transfer digital assets through a QR code and supposedly receive twice their original holdings. However, legitimate cryptocurrency giveaways never require participants to send assets before receiving rewards or promotional payments.

The attackers used a familiar giveaway scam but delivered it through an official channel rather than an impersonation account. Consequently, the compromised account provided greater credibility and could persuade viewers who usually recognize fake social media profiles.

Compromised Official Channel Raises Risks for Cardano Users

Cardano’s security guidelines identify fake Hoskinson livestreams and “send ADA, receive more ADA” promotions as common cryptocurrency scams. These schemes often pressure viewers to act quickly before properly checking the offer or confirming its source.

Moreover, displayed QR codes may direct users toward malicious wallet addresses, phishing pages, or platforms designed to collect sensitive information. Cryptocurrency payments usually remain irreversible, making recovery difficult once victims transfer ADA or other assets to criminal-controlled wallets.

Therefore, users should treat every video, link, QR code, and giveaway connected to the affected channel as potentially dangerous. Wallet owners should never disclose recovery phrases, private keys, passwords, or personal identification details through websites promoted during livestreams.

Community reactions beneath Hoskinson’s warning reflected frustration among users who had previously encountered scams involving Cardano’s name. One widely supported response suggested that earlier incidents had already taught community members to distrust suspicious cryptocurrency offers.
