Solana News: Shinhan and Solana Foundation Join RWA Fund Pilot
Today's biggest Solana news comes out of South Korea. Shinhan Asset Management, one of the country's largest institutional managers, signed a four-party memorandum of understanding with the Solana Foundation, Etherfuse, and Orca to test a won-denominated tokenized fund. Separately, Solana treasury company Solmate added another 1,000 SOL to its holdings, and Solana's native token itself is trading sharply higher on the day.
Inside the Shinhan KRW Tokenization MOU
Shinhan Asset Management confirmed the four-party MOU on August 21, aiming to test the full issuance and circulation process for a KRW-denominated tokenized fund. Key details of the agreement:
The structure is modeled on BlackRock's tokenized fund BUIDL.
The Korean asset manager would supply a won-denominated ultra-short-term bond fund as the underlying asset.
Overseas institutional investors would hold the tokenized version, per the proof-of-concept design.
Etherfuse handles tokenized issuance infrastructure, while Orca provides on-chain liquidity.
The initiative targets a tokenized real-world asset (RWA) market valued at roughly $36 billion today, which BCG projects could reach as much as $30 trillion by 2030.

This isn't Shinhan's only recent move into tokenized won assets. Just a week earlier, on August 14, Shinhan signed a separate MOU with RWA platform Plume for a similar KRW tokenized fund proof-of-concept, also benchmarked against BlackRock's BUIDL. Today's news effectively confirms the Korean asset manager is running parallel pilots across multiple blockchain ecosystems rather than committing to one exclusively, at least at this exploratory stage.
Both efforts remain proof-of-concept work. Neither MOU commits Shinhan to a live, commercially distributed fund, and South Korea's own tokenized-securities framework isn't scheduled to take effect until February 2027.
Solmate Adds 1000 More SOL to Treasury
Solana treasury company Solmate Infrastructure PLC (NASDAQ: SLMT) disclosed another token purchase on August 20. Details from the company's own announcement:
Metric | Value |
Latest purchase | 1,000 SOL |
Purchase date | August 20, 2026 |
Total SOL holdings | ~1.25 million SOL |
Estimated holdings value | ~$102.2 million |
Reference SOL price used | $85 (Kraken, as of Aug. 20, 4:30 p.m. ET) |

Solmate's own disclosure notes that the dollar value of its SOL holdings will fluctuate with SOL's market price and may decline substantially from the figures reported at the time of announcement.
SOL Price Rallies Past $90 Mark Today
SOL is one of today's stronger large-cap movers. As of this writing, SOL trades at $90.21, up 5.73% over the past 24 hours, according to CoinMarketCap data.
Metric | Value |
Price | $90.21 (+5.73% 24h) |
Market Cap | $52.6B (+5.76% 24h) |
Volume (24h) | $5.19B (+1.93%) |
Vol/Mkt Cap (24h) | 9.81% |
FDV | $57.06B |
Total Supply | 632.51M SOL |
Circulating Supply | 583.06M SOL |
Max Supply | Uncirculated |

Worth noting: the $85 reference price Solmate used for its Aug. 20 disclosure already sits below today's $90.21 level, meaning the actual current value of Solmate's ~1.25 million SOL holdings is higher than the $102.2 million figure stated in its own release.
Conclusion
Today's Solana news pairs a genuine institutional milestone with steady treasury accumulation and a strong price move. The Shinhan MOU signals real interest in Solana as RWA infrastructure, though it remains an early-stage proof-of-concept running alongside a similar Plume-based pilot. Solmate's continued buying and SOL's rally past $90 point to broader positive sentiment around the network today.
