The Solana Foundation has launched new security programs following a major exploit on the network. The initiatives, STRIDE and SIRN, aim to strengthen defenses across its decentralized finance ecosystem.

The rollout comes days after an attack on Drift Protocol exposed gaps in existing safeguards. The incident has pushed the foundation to introduce a more coordinated and proactive security framework.

Drift’s $286M Hack

On April 1, attackers exploited Drift Protocol and stole about $286 million within minutes. The security breach followed weeks of preparation and marked one of the largest incidents in Solana’s DeFi sector this year.

The exploit reduced Drift’s total value locked from $550 million to $234 million in a short period. Its native token also declined sharply, losing more than 37% over the following week.

In response to the incident, the Solana Foundation introduced the STRIDE and SIRN programs on April 6, 2026, in collaboration with Asymmetric Research. The initiatives aim to address rising risks as Solana-based DeFi platforms expand in scale and complexity.

Introducing STRIDE and SIRN

STRIDE replaces one-time audits with continuous and risk-based security monitoring. The framework assesses protocols across eight pillars, with findings published publicly to improve transparency.

Protocols holding more than $10 million in value locked can receive round-the-clock monitoring funded by the Solana Foundation. Those with over $100 million may also qualify for formal verification, which tests smart contracts using mathematical proofs.

Alongside STRIDE, SIRN serves as a coordinated response network linking security teams across the ecosystem. Members include OtterSec, Neodyme, Squads, and ZeroShadow.

The network focuses on rapid response and intelligence sharing during security incidents. Efforts are prioritized based on risk exposure and the scale of potential losses.

Improving Security Across Solana Protocols

The initiatives build on existing tools such as Hypernative and Range Security. These tools support early detection of suspicious activity across protocols.

Some projects already reflect stricter security practices within the ecosystem. Squads Multisig, Kamino, and Jupiter Lend have completed multiple audits and verification processes.

Despite these efforts, the Solana Foundation notes that protocol teams must still maintain strong internal safeguards. Projects handling user funds are expected to apply strict security measures at all times.

By linking monitoring and funding to risk levels, the approach aims to improve resilience across Solana’s DeFi sector. The foundation expects that stronger coordination will help reduce the impact of future exploits.
