On its own, another directory listing might seem like a minor housekeeping update. In the context of what neoclouds and distributed GPU networks are trying to achieve, it matters more than it looks.
The Problem Neoclouds Are Solving
Most AI teams still discover cloud infrastructure the same way they did a decade ago, going directly to AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. That made sense when general-purpose cloud was the only serious option. It makes less sense now. AWS holds roughly 29 percent of cloud GPU market share, Azure 20 percent, and GCP 13 percent, and their pricing reflects the dominance. An 8-GPU H100 node on AWS can run significantly higher than neocloud equivalents.
The gap is significant, and it’s even wider for distributed networks. Theta EdgeCloud’s pricing sits 50 to 70 percent below the hyperscalers for comparable GPUs. The catch is that most AI teams don’t know these alternatives exist. Better, cheaper options are available, but the path to finding them isn’t obvious.
That gap between what’s available and what gets used is what discoverability infrastructure is beginning to close.
How Buyers Are Starting to Find Alternatives
The timing matters. 84.7 percent of organisations report AI project delays of three to six months due to insufficient GPU availability, and 96.9 percent cite high compute costs as a significant barrier. Data-center GPU lead times have stretched to 9–12 months. Teams that can’t wait and can’t pay hyperscaler rates need alternatives, and they need to find them quickly.
Sites like GPUs.io, GetDeploying, and GPUFinder.dev aggregate GPU providers, list what each one offers, show pricing, and let people compare side by side. This changes the default behaviour of buyers. Instead of going straight to a hyperscaler, a developer looking for an H100 can see multiple providers at different price points, with different contract terms and regional availability.
For distributed neoclouds like Theta EdgeCloud, this is particularly useful. That range is genuinely valuable for AI teams matching workloads to the right tier of hardware, but none of it helps anyone if they can’t find us in the first place.
The Bigger Picture
The neocloud category is young, and the infrastructure that helps buyers navigate it is younger still. IDC projects AI infrastructure spending to exceed $1 trillion by 2029, up from $318 billion in 2025. A market growing at that pace needs better ways for buyers to find the right compute for the right workload, and directories are the early version of that.
Over the next couple of years we expect to see more aggregators, more comparison tools, and eventually federated marketplaces where workloads are placed across providers automatically based on price and performance. For buyers, that means more choice, better pricing, and less time spent hunting for capacity.
