Ethereum News Today: $9M Trader Profit, Whale Sells and BlackRock Buys

Ethereum News Today is dominated by a split market story: one long-time whale keeps cashing out, while some of the world's largest asset managers keep buying in. Four developments stand out. These moves paint a picture of a market where early holders are taking profit even as fresh institutional money flows in.

At a Glance

  • F2Pool co-founder Wang Chun sold another 6,609 Coins (~$16.63M), taking total sales to 23,378 Coins (~$55.06M) at an average of ~$2,355

  • BTC/ETH spot ETFs recorded +$2.5B in weekly net inflows, the highest this year

  • BlackRock added ~$240M in BTC and ETH to its IBIT, ETHA, and ETHB wallets

  • A Hyperliquid trader made ~$9M from long ETH and BTC positions

  • Whale selling continues, but institutional buying currently outweighs it

F2Pool Co-Founder Wang Chun Sells Another 6,609 ETH

According to on-chain analyst EmberCN, the wallet linked to F2Pool co-founder Wang Chun reduced its ETH position by 6,609 tokens roughly 10 hours before this report, worth about $16.63 million at the time of sale.

This latest transaction is part of a broader trend: since the current ETH price rally began, the same address has cumulatively sold 23,378 tokens, worth an estimated $55.06 million, at an average price of around $2,355 per coin.

Wallet-tracking data like this is often watched closely because early miners and pool operators tend to sell into strength, and repeated large withdrawals from a single address can signal that a long-term holder sees the current price zone as a good exit point.

Ethereum ETF Demand Returns as Crypto Market Sees $2.5B Weekly Inflows

Just as notable, weekly net flows into U.S. spot crypto, both Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs, flipped from -$400 million the prior week to +$2.5 billion, the strongest reading so far this year.

GSR notes that the ETF selling pressure that weighed on the market for several weeks appears to have eased, with new capital currently rotating into BTC and ETHs rather than altcoins.

Mysterious Hyperliquid Trader Makes Nearly $9M From BTC and ETH

A separate report from Onchain Lens flagged a Hyperliquid wallet that turned two trades into roughly $9 million in all-time perpetuals profit. The trader ran a 123-day Ethereum long with $143 million in notional exposure, closing it for a $7.11 million gain. A second, shorter 37-day BTC long carried $50.35 million in notional size and returned $1.89 million in profit. The size and duration of these positions suggest a well-capitalized trader with high conviction in the current uptrend for both major assets.

BlackRock Buys $240M in Bitcoin and Ethereum

Onchain Lens also reported that BlackRock added close to $240 million combined in BTC and ETH. The firm accumulated 2,802.904 BTC, worth about $223.41 million, and 6,580 ETH, worth roughly $16.57 million, moving the coins into its IBIT, ETHA, and ETHB ETF wallets. This kind of accumulation aligns with the broader ETF inflow data from GSR and reinforces the idea that institutional demand has picked back up after weeks of comparatively muted activity.

The contrast here is worth sitting with. Wang Chun's address has been a consistent seller throughout the rally, taking profit at rising prices rather than holding for higher levels. At the same time, BlackRock and other ETF issuers have been net buyers, and GSR's data shows fresh capital is now favoring BTC and ETH specifically over smaller altcoins.

For now, institutional inflows appear large enough to absorb whale-level selling without derailing the broader uptrend, though that balance can shift quickly if outflows resume or if more long-term holders decide to follow Wang Chun's lead.

Ethereum Price Outlook: Key Signals to Watch Next

Traders watching Ethereum news today from here should keep an eye on a few things: whether weekly ETF flows stay positive or revert toward outflows, whether Wang Chun's wallet continues distributing tokens or pauses, how derivatives positioning (funding rates, open interest, liquidations) evolves after last week's volatility, and whether other large holders begin moving coins in similar patterns.

Sustained ETF demand alongside slowing whale distribution would be a constructive setup for coins; the opposite combination could pressure price even amid strong headline buying from firms like BlackRock.

Conclusion

Ethereum current market reflects two opposing forces: sustained whale distribution from Wang Chun's wallet and renewed institutional appetite from BlackRock and broader ETF inflows. With $2.5 billion entering BTC and ETH ETFs weekly and large traders posting strong profits, institutional demand currently outweighs whale selling pressure. Traders should watch ETF flow trends and whale wallet activity closely, as this balance could shift and influence ETH's next major price move.
