Shopify is the well known $121 billion company (source: CBC News) that helps anyone build their own e-commerce website that started in Ottawa of all places in just 2006.
Now a Portugal-based company called BEPRO Network is building a way for anyone to launch their own Esports betting website just as easily.
With Esports grossing over $1 billion in revenue in 2020 (source: newzoo.com) and the online betting market estimated to reach $127 billion by 2027 (source: Grand View Research), the young platform represents a significant opportunity that marries a growing market with decentralized finance (DeFi) technology.
The co-founder and CEO behind the company, Rui Texeira, is also connected to other DeFi technology companies which has allowed BEPRO to secure a number of significant partnerships in the space including Polkamarkets, Ankr and Chainlink (source: bepro.network).
Despite the positive outlook of the future of the project, BEPRO does raise questions about the social effects of democratizing virtual betting and the potential fallout of global adoption of such tools.
