If all big exchanges fail, I don't see any future for crypto adaptation.

First of all, I'm by no means an expert in crypto and this is just a personal opinion, feel free to enlighten me if I'm wrong or if you could suggest better ideas.
As of now, I still keep my money mostly on exchanges and the rest goes to hot wallet. I know it's risky, but I am somehow prepared if it would fail and doomed like FTX.
Keeping my crypto in hardware wallet is expensive, there are also risks of buying counterfeit product, transferring to wrong address, losing the ledger, etc. And I personally could not see an adaptation of crypto if everyone just store their crypto in hardware wallet, how could it be adapted for fast and secure transaction superior to banks if they all keep it in a hardware wallet without centralized exchanges? It seems to be way too complicated and risky for the mainstream with little knowledge in crypto. I personally would rather completely quit crypto if the CEX I put my money in were to fail.
