Change My Mind: It Matters if People Hate Bitcoin

The meme: “Bitcoin is inevitable.”

The reality:

Money is a social phenomenon, and people are irrational. Something can have a super high degree of utility and be perfect for any rational person to use, yet people will still not use it if they are convinced it’s reprehensible for some reason.

Basically, social taboo. If bitcoin is successfully smeared and denigrated, this actually matters. Bitcoin isn’t inevitable, nothing is inevitable. We have to continue to work on education if we want bitcoin to succeed in the way a lot of maximalists think it can.
