Tokyo-based Metaplanet Inc., a publicly listed company in Japan, has deepened its commitment to bitcoin (BTC) with a fresh acquisition of 518 BTC. The purchase, valued at approximately $61.4 million, was executed at an average price of about $118,519 per coin.

Following its latest purchase, the company’s total Bitcoin reserves have now reached 18,113 BTC. The cumulative investment in these holdings stands at around $1.85 billion, with an average purchase cost of roughly $101,911 per coin.

Metaplanet Cements Role as Top Player

The move further strengthens the firm’s position as one of the most aggressive corporate BTC accumulators in Asia. Metaplanet’s strategy echoes that of U.S.-based Strategy, which has also made Bitcoin a core part of its corporate treasury model.

This latest buy underscores the company’s long-term confidence in the asset, even as the price hovers near historic highs. As of the time of writing, BTC was trading at $118,474, according to data from CoinGecko.

Metaplanet’s consistent bitcoin purchases could signal growing institutional confidence in Japan’s digital asset market. It could also pave the way for other publicly traded companies in the region to follow suit.

From July 1 to August 12, 2025, the entity has achieved a BTC Yield of 26.5%. However, the company also achieved a BTC Yield of 129.4% from April 1 to June 30, which is relatively higher than its latest.

BTC Acquisition Spree

Besides Metaplanet, other prominent companies are also buying the leading asset. Earlier today, The Smarter Web Company, known for its web design services and growing Bitcoin treasury, expanded its crypto stash by 295 BTC. The firm revealed the purchase was worth £26.3 million ($35.2 million), with each coin acquired at an average of £89,000 ($119,412).

The world’s largest corporate BTC holder, Strategy, also made a remarkable purchase. The intelligence company acquired 155 BTC, valued at  $18 million, between August 4 and August 10, 2025.

According to the firm’s disclosure, Strategy bought the coins at an average price of 116,401 per BTC. Following its latest BTC stash, the company holds 628,946 BTC acquired at roughly $46.09 billion at an average of $73,288 per bitcoin. The buy also further cemented the entity’s position as a top player in BTC acquisition. With its first BTC purchase on August 11, 2024, Strategy has shown a remarkable commitment to the digital asset. Over the years, the company has aggressively bought bitcoin.
