Seoul National University of Science and Technology Joins Theta EdgeCloud to Advance Brain-Inspired AI and Biomedical Innovation

Seoul National University of Science and Technology (SeoulTech), a leading research university in Korea, is joining Theta’s academic partner network by adopting Theta’s EdgeCloud Hybrid platform.
The BrAIn Lab, led by Assistant Professor Seong-Eun Kim, conducts pioneering research across multiple domains at the intersection of neuroscience, biomedical engineering, and artificial intelligence. Its work spans adaptive signal processing, including advanced filter design and analysis; biometrics such as body-pulse-response-based authentication and fingerprint anti-spoofing; neural signal processing with EEG and spectral analysis; and neural engineering through brain-computer interface (BCI) systems.
In neuroscience, the lab investigates neural dynamics under general anesthesia, postoperative delirium, and dementia. It also develops medical devices for detecting abnormal conditions using lung sounds from digital stethoscopes, while leveraging artificial intelligence techniques in machine learning, deep learning, and anomaly detection.
By combining neuroscience with adaptive signal processing and deep learning, the BrAIn Lab has gained international recognition for bridging neuroengineering, healthcare AI, and robust biometrics. Recent publications from the lab have been accepted at top-tier international venues including Interspeech 2025, CHI 2025, and IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (IF 9.9, JCR Top 4.9%), alongside honors such as the Best Paper Award at the Summer Conference of the Institute of Electronics Engineers of Korea (IEEK).
“Theta EdgeCloud Hybrid gives our lab the flexibility to run diverse experiments across neuroscience, neural signal processing, neural engineering, and biometrics: from lightweight anomaly detection to large-scale deep learning models,” said Prof. Seong-Eun Kim, Director of the BrAIn Lab. “By leveraging GPUs ranging from community-powered NVIDIA 40–50 series nodes to enterprise-grade A100s and H100s, we can accelerate research in brain-inspired AI, medical diagnostics, and secure biometric systems without cloud based infrastructure bottlenecks.”
Accelerating Brain-Inspired AI and Biomedical Innovation at SeoulTech
Theta EdgeCloud Hybrid is the world’s first decentralized hybrid GPU platform, combining thousands of community-run NVIDIA GPUs (30/40/50 series), enterprise-grade A100/H100 GPUs, and AWS’s next-generation Inferentia and Trainium AI chips. SeoulTech chose EdgeCloud for its unique balance of scale, flexibility, and affordability, enabling researchers to seamlessly switch between large-scale training and lightweight prototyping.
For labs like BrAIn Lab, access to such diverse compute resources accelerates experimentation, removes bottlenecks, and brings real-world deployment closer to reality.
“We’re thrilled to add SeoulTech’s BrAIn Lab to Theta’s global academic partner network,” said Mitch Liu, CEO and Co-Founder of Theta Labs. “Theta’s hybrid GPUs are the largest and most powerful platform combining community GPUs, enterprise-grade A100s and H100s, and AWS Trainium and Inferentia. Theta EdgeCloud removes infrastructure bottlenecks and empowers SeoulTech to lead in brain-inspired AI, neural signal processing, and biomedical innovation.”
