What to Know:

  • A crypto whale opened a $14.3 million leveraged Monero position on Hyperliquid, targeting potential XMR gains between $475 and $516.
  • Monero’s FCMP++ upgrade strengthens transaction privacy, while XMR remains linked with investigations involving stolen assets and suspected laundering operations.
  • Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson has supported potential cooperation with Monero, adding broader blockchain context surrounding the privacy-focused cryptocurrency’s development and adoption.

A crypto whale has opened a $14.3 million leveraged Monero position on Hyperliquid, targeting an XMR rally toward $516. According to blockchain analytics platform Lookonchain, the newly created wallet deposited 3.56 million USDC into Hyperliquid before entering the trade.

The whale then opened a 4x leveraged long position involving 36,000 XMR, valued at approximately $14.33 million. Significantly, the trader placed take-profit orders between $475 and $516, providing clear levels for the bullish strategy.

Those orders indicate that the whale expects Monero to gain substantially before gradually reducing exposure at higher price levels. However, using 4x leverage also increases potential losses if XMR moves significantly against the trader’s position. The identity of the wallet owner remains unknown, leaving the position size and targets as the main indicators of trading expectations.

Monero Whale Targets $475 to $516 as XMR Draws Stronger Market Interest

Monero has recorded substantial gains during 2026, while demand for privacy-focused cryptocurrencies has supported broader interest in XMR. Besides its price performance, developments surrounding Monero’s technology have strengthened its position within the privacy segment of the cryptocurrency market.

FCMP++ represents an important upgrade for the network and aims to strengthen privacy protections available for transactions conducted through Monero. Meanwhile, XMR’s privacy features have also connected the cryptocurrency with investigations involving stolen assets and suspected money laundering operations.

One previous case involved roughly $120 million in USDT and coincided with XMR climbing from around $330 to $438. Tether eventually froze approximately $72 million connected with that activity, limiting access to a significant portion of the funds.

Additionally, Monero appeared in reports surrounding a $7.9 million cross-chain attack involving assets across the Tron and Ethereum networks. Blockchain investigator Specter reported that the attacker started converting stolen assets into Monero through cryptocurrency exchanges. ChangeNOW reportedly froze a six-figure amount connected with the stolen assets, while Coinsbuy temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals.

Monero’s Privacy Technology Adds Broader Context to Whale’s Bullish Bet

Moreover, Monero’s privacy infrastructure has attracted interest from prominent blockchain developers considering possible cooperation between different decentralized networks. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson previously argued that Cardano could cooperate with privacy-focused cryptocurrency networks including Monero and Zcash.

Such developments provide broader context for the whale’s decision to establish substantial leveraged exposure to XMR through Hyperliquid. Still, the position remains a speculative trade rather than confirmation that Monero will reach the whale’s intended price levels.

The $475 target represents the lower boundary of the take-profit range, while $516 marks the trader’s highest disclosed objective. Therefore, movement toward those levels would determine whether the whale’s $14.3 million bullish Monero bet delivers its intended leveraged returns.
