Crypto Payment Firm Triple-A Loses $9.7 Million in Multi-Chain Wallet Hack

Crypto payment processor Triple-A has recently become a target for cybercriminals. Attackers compromised its hot wallets on several major blockchain networks. Blockchain investigators estimate that the exploit has already drained over $9.7 million from wallets operating on Ethereum, TRON, TON, and Solana.

As of this writing, the team has yet to acknowledge the attack or commence moves to retrieve the stolen funds.

A Nearly $10M Theft

Blockchain data uncovered unusual fund transfers. The attackers executed planned transactions across multiple networks to evade immediate security checks. They swiftly exchanged stolen cryptocurrencies on decentralized trading platforms, facilitating the conversion of different digital assets into their preferred tokens.

After swapping the tokens, the attackers transferred large sums of money via cross-chain bridges connecting various blockchain networks. Most of the stolen funds ultimately ended up on Ethereum, where investigators are still tracking suspicious addresses associated with the ongoing crime.

Analysts believe the attackers deliberately used multiple wallets, as this layered approach makes it more challenging for investigators to trace the stolen crypto.

A Possible Rug Pull?

The project’s silence on the incident has sparked concerns in the crypto community. Some feel that for a company with only 73 followers on X, Triple-A’s $9.7 million hack may actually be a rug pull on the project’s part.

Others backed the possibility of a rug pull, saying that there was only one exit door.

Whether this incident is a rug pull or not, Triple-A’s compromise marks the conclusion of another damaging week, marred by several high-value crypto exploits. Just yesterday, CoinTab News reported separate multimillion-dollar exploits involving AFX and VerusCoin.

AFX suffered a staggering loss of $24.15 million after attackers exploited its bridge infrastructure. VerusCoin also experienced an exploit involving its Ethereum bridge. This resulted in a loss of approximately $7.5 million, marking its second successful attack in just two months. These incidents illustrate how cybercriminals increasingly exploit weaknesses in bridges, hot wallets, and validator systems, despite rising investments in blockchain security.
