The crypto market steadied on Sunday after Friday’s jobs-report whipsaw. Total market capitalization is $2.91 trillion, up 0.64% over 24 hours, while 24-hour trading volume is $41.68 billion, down 31.76% in a typical weekend lull, according to CoinMarketCap. Liquidations have cooled to $61.83 million over 24 hours. Bitcoin is at $85,321 and Ether at $2,702, Zcash and Dogecoin lead the largest coins with gains of 2.71% and 2.63%, and CoinMarketCap’s Fear & Greed Index reads 68 out of 100, up from 67 on Saturday.

Key Takeaways

Total market capitalization stands at $2.91 trillion, up 0.64% in 24 hours and about 1% below Friday morning’s $2.94 trillion, with volume down 31.76% to $41.68 billion. Bitcoin dominance is 59.0% and Ethereum dominance 11.3%, both unchanged from Saturday. CoinMarketCap’s Fear & Greed Index reads 68 out of 100, in the Greed zone, below Friday’s 71 and above Saturday’s 67.

Forced selling has faded. CoinMarketCap shows $61.83 million of liquidations over the last 24 hours, with short positions accounting for $42.68 million and longs for $19.14 million. CoinGlass had counted $433.57 million over the 24 hours to Saturday morning, about 74% of it from longs.

The largest coins moved little on the day: Bitcoin is up 0.42%, Ether 0.54% and XRP 0.63%. Zcash gained 2.71% and Dogecoin 2.63%, Chainlink added 2.08%, and Monero fell 1.36%. Over seven days Zcash is down 15.55%, the weakest of the 14 largest coins, followed by Cardano at negative 2.61%, while BNB leads at plus 1.44% and Bitcoin is up 0.92%.

Fund flows remain narrow. Spot Bitcoin ETFs took in a provisional $82.9 million in the week to October 2, against $2.39 billion the week before, and Friday’s figures were incomplete because Farside had not posted BlackRock’s IBIT. Spot Ether ETFs lost $118 million over the week, Grayscale’s Zcash ETF lost $26.93 million on Friday, and XRP funds lost $3.28 million.

Michael Saylor posted “More orange than ever” with Strategy’s purchase chart on Sunday, a message the market reads as a hint of another Bitcoin buy that the company has not confirmed. Odds of a Federal Reserve rate hike in October are roughly 14% to 17% after Friday’s weak jobs report.

Today’s Crypto Market Analysis

Sunday’s action was a pause, not a trend. Bitcoin is 1.17% below Friday morning and about 2.2% below the $87,229 high it reached on the jobs report, Ether is 2.12% lower, and total market value is about 1% below Friday morning’s $2.94 trillion. Volume fell by almost a third from Saturday’s reading, so prices can move on thin books until US markets reopen on Monday. Sentiment reflects the calm: CoinMarketCap’s reading of 68 is up one point from Saturday, though different providers can read the same market differently, as our comparison of two Fear and Greed indexes showed last week.

The bounce is concentrated in the laggards. Zcash is up 2.71% on the day but remains 15.55% lower on the week and about 21% below its late-September peak near $1,698, after its ETF lost $26.93 million on Friday and cumulative net inflows fell to $213 million from about $306 million on September 24, a story covered in Zcash News Today. Dogecoin gained 2.63% on the day and trails Bitcoin by about 2.3 percentage points on the week, as tracked in Dogecoin Price Today. XRP is flat near $1.50 after Ripple’s Seoul event, where it unveiled confidential transfers and AI agent tools for the XRP Ledger, as covered in XRP News Today.

Funds are the cautious part of the picture. Bitcoin ETFs took in a provisional $82.9 million for the week to October 2, Ether ETFs lost $118 million after taking in $689.8 million the previous week, and Friday’s final numbers for IBIT, ETHA and ETHB were still blank on Saturday, according to Farside Investors. Michael Saylor’s Sunday post hints at a Strategy purchase that would add demand if confirmed, and Strategy’s last disclosed buy is covered in our report on its September 28 purchase.

Why Is the Crypto Market Moving Today?

The market is moving little because there is no scheduled trigger. The jobs report that drove Friday’s spike and reversal has been absorbed, rate-hike bets remain low, and weekend volume is thin. The modest gains are led by bounces in Zcash and Dogecoin, with Bitcoin holding above $85,000.

What This Means for the Days Ahead

Monday brings the first US trading session since the jobs report, the first complete read on Friday’s ETF flows and a possible Strategy filing, and BitMine is due to publish its next weekly Ether holdings update. On Tuesday, October 6, Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade activates on the Sepolia testnet at 13:53 UTC and Zcash’s NU7 upgrade reaches its testnet. Evernorth expects to close its merger on October 7, with XRPN trading on Nasdaq starting October 8, and the XRPL Batch amendment can activate no earlier than October 9.

The big macro dates are September CPI on Wednesday, October 14, at 8:30 a.m. ET and the Fed meeting on October 27 and 28. Blast, the Ethereum layer-2 network that announced it is shutting down, closes withdrawals on October 26.
