Truth Social, the social media platform owned by Donald Trump, has denied reports suggesting plans to launch a new memecoin. The platform described the claims as “fake” and misleading.
“Contrary to rumors, Truth Social is not launching a memecoin,” the platform posted on Tuesday.
The speculation started when CNBC host Ran Neuner posted on X that Truth Social would release a memecoin within 72 hours. He linked the project to the same team behind the $TRUMP token and told followers to stay alert. His post quickly spread, prompting reactions from the crypto space.
Rumors Shut Down by Trump Jr. and WLFI
Alongside Truth Social’s clarification, Donald Trump Jr. weighed in on the issue. He advised the public to ignore the circulating misinformation and noted that there are no crypto plans involving Truth Social.
The Trump-backed crypto project WLFI also issued a warning. It said that WLFI is the only legitimate crypto project tied to the Trump family. The team described all other tokens claiming Trump links as scams targeting uninformed users.
Don’t be fooled. There is no new Trump crypto project. 🦅
WLFI is the only DeFi project backed by the Trumps.
Anyone else pushing fake tokens is just a scammer trying to take advantage of people who don’t know better. https://t.co/SxUs9zh9Wc— WLFI (@worldlibertyfi) May 13, 2025
Following these clarifications, Neuner posted again, acknowledging the denials but stopping short of withdrawing his initial claim.
Speculation Persists
Despite the official responses, confusion continued to linger across online communities. Part of the uncertainty stems from Truth Social’s official X handle, which features the tag “$DJT.” While this refers to the stock ticker for Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), some users mistook it for a cryptocurrency symbol, especially as $DJT began trending on memecoin forums.
Adding to the speculation, past reports indicated that Truth Social and its parent company were exploring blockchain-based tools to expand platform utility. TMTG Chairman Devin Nunes had previously mentioned plans to introduce a digital wallet and a token-based rewards system. However, no launch timeline or concrete details were ever shared.
For now, all official Trump-linked sources maintain that no new token is in development. They continue to stress that WLFI remains the only authorized crypto project tied to the Trump family.
