What’s your name and where are you from?

I’m Humpty Calderon, Head of Community at Ontology. I’m from Los Angeles, California. I joined Ontology’s community in April 2019.

Tell us a bit about yourself. What did you study? What are your hobbies?

I studied Computer Science with an emphasis on Information Technology. I owned and operated my own IT consultancy for eight years. When I have free time, I love to read, hike, and spend time with my family. I also love to build stuff. I have a wood shop where I build cabinets and shelves for my home.

Do you have any pets?

I don’t have any pets, but I can’t help but feed a stray cat when given the chance. So I am still quite an animal lover!

What would your superpower be?

Some say that you’re born knowing everything, so we don’t learn new things, we’re just remembering. If I had a superpower, I’d like to be able to access the full breadth of my memories and create things with that knowledge to help the world.

What kind of work do you do on a day-to-day basis?

I connect with Web3 communities, participate in conversations about meaningfully engaging these communities, and I look at how we can develop more robust incentive and governance processes. For Ontology, I onboard community members to become ambassadors for decentralized IDs and data. I also engage with developers to build with the rich DID stack that Ontology has built.

In your opinion, what makes Ontology stand out from other blockchains?

Ontology has, in my opinion, developed the most comprehensive decentralized identity ecosystem. ONT ID, OScore, Wing Finance, Orange Protocol, and ONTO Wallet are all incredibly powerful tools for Web3, with huge potential.

What is the most exciting part of the project you’re working on for Ontology?

I am happy to work with incredibly talented and kind human beings who are about their work and creating a better, more secure future for everybody.

What has been the most important moment in your career so far?

Innovation in decentralized identity is happening on a day-to-day basis at Ontology. This in itself is something very important that I’m excited to be a part of. On a personal level, since starting my podcast, I’ve been able to open doors that were once closed and develop friendships with many Web3 leaders. That has been hugely important for my career.

What are you most excited for in your future at Ontology?

Helping to continue onboarding community members and developers to build with Ontology’s DID stack. I think self-sovereign identity and reputation are the next big unlock of Web3.

As we mark Ontology’s five-year anniversary, where do you see Ontology and Web3 going in the next five years?

What we’re going to see is more people owning their identity and data whilst creating monetization opportunities. Both privacy and self-sovereignty are important to people, so promoting prosperity on a monetization level over the next five years is going to be very important.
