Bitcoin rarely leaves its own chain to work anywhere else, but Sui’s newest testnet is finding a way around that, and the deposit numbers are climbing fast.
What Is Hashi, And Why Does It Skip Wrapping BTC?
Hashi is a Bitcoin-collateral protocol from the Sui Foundation and Mysten Labs that lets BTC back onchain loans while the asset stays on Bitcoin’s own network rather than being wrapped or bridged elsewhere.
Deposits run through a 2-of-2 multisig arrangement requiring signatures from Hashi’s MPC validator committee and a separate Guardian Layer, a risk-management system built to slow or block suspicious withdrawals before collateral can move.

The testnet went live on July 22, 2026, and more than 25 institutional partners, including BitGo, Cumberland, and Ledger, are already stress-testing it.
How Much Traction Has The Testnet Actually Gained?
On August 11, 2026, Sui reported that Hashi had crossed 1.1 million deposits and processed more than 165,000 withdrawals just three weeks after launch.
More striking is what that activity is doing to Bitcoin’s own test environment: over 50% of all Bitcoin Signet transactions in the past two weeks came from Hashi testing alone, according to Sui, pushing volume to roughly five times its pre-launch baseline.
Is The Market Paying Attention Yet?
Not fully, at least not in price. As of 09:50 UTC on August 12, 2026, SUI/USD traded at $0.6911 on the weekly chart, down 0.22% intraday and still recovering from a sharp pullback off highs above $0.85 in July.

The weekly RSI sits near 37.64, in territory that typically reflects lingering caution rather than enthusiasm.
Network activity and price aren’t always in sync, and this gap looks like one of those stretches where the fundamentals are quietly outrunning the chart.
The Bigger Bet
Less than half a percent of Bitcoin’s market cap currently sits inside DeFi anywhere, and Hashi is one of the more credible attempts to change that without asking holders to give up native custody.
If the testnet keeps this pace into a mainnet launch, does Sui end up as the chain that finally makes Bitcoin’s trillion-dollar balance sheet productive?
