Bitcoin Suisse, one of Switzerland’s longest-running crypto financial services firms, is cutting up to 60 jobs in its home market as it restructures from a primarily Swiss company into an international financial services group. The Zug-based provider said the move will affect up to half of its 120 Swiss jobs.
The reduction adds Bitcoin Suisse to a growing list of crypto firms trimming staff and consolidating operations as the industry matures and cost discipline returns to the market. The changes concentrate on support and development functions rather than customer-facing roles, the company indicated.
A consultation window that runs to September 20
A company spokesperson told Switzerland’s AWP news agency that part of the change stems from software development and back-office functions being consolidated within international hubs. The exact details of the restructuring are the subject of an ongoing consultation process that will run until September 20, the spokesperson said.
Bitcoin Suisse has not yet disclosed a specific figure for job losses at its Zug headquarters, where the company has anchored its operations since it was founded more than a decade ago.
From Swiss crypto pioneer to international group
The cuts formalize a shift that Bitcoin Suisse has been building toward all year. The firm secured a MiCAR license and launched a European expansion, and separately received a financial services permission in Abu Dhabi as part of a Middle East push.
Switzerland will remain the center of the company’s customer-facing business, while back-end engineering and administrative work is consolidated internationally, the firm indicated.
What the restructuring signals
Bitcoin Suisse’s move echoes similar trims at other crypto companies, including Polygon Labs, which cut staff in a pivot toward payments, and Aave, which reorganized its business as decentralized finance applications consolidated. The common thread is a push for leaner structures built around fewer, larger hubs.
Until the consultation concludes later this month, the final scale of the job cuts remains open. What is already clear is the direction: a smaller Swiss footprint and a broader international one for a firm that has long been a fixture of Switzerland’s Crypto Valley. For its Swiss employees, the coming weeks will determine how many roles are ultimately affected.
