YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — BlackRock, the largest asset manager with $11.6 trillion in assets under management, now holds 567,000 Bitcoin (BTC), valued at $47.8 billion, according to Arkham Intelligence. This makes BlackRock one of the largest institutional holders of BTC.

The most recent Bitcoin purchase took place on March 14, when a Coinbase Prime wallet transferred 268 BTC, worth $22 million, to the iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) wallet. BlackRock continues to expand its crypto holdings despite market fluctuations.

In addition to Bitcoin, BlackRock holds 1.2 million Ether (ETH), valued at $2.3 billion, along with 70 million USDC stablecoins and a range of altcoins.

Bitcoin ETF Sees Billions in Institutional Investment

The Bitcoin ETF market has changed the way institutional investors access cryptocurrency. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin ETF (IBIT) has seen large inflows, allowing investors to gain exposure to Bitcoin without direct custody.

Bitcoin ETFs have been one of the fastest-growing investment products, bringing significant liquidity to the crypto market. BlackRock’s ETF is among the largest, influencing the overall movement of crypto assets in traditional financial markets.

Bitcoin ETF Outflows Increase in 2025

Despite earlier inflows, crypto ETFs recorded four weeks of consecutive outflows from February to early March 2025. According to CoinShares, outflows totaled $4.75 billion, with $876 million withdrawn during the week of March 9.

BlackRock’s IBIT saw $193 million in outflows in the same week. Across all Bitcoin ETFs, month-to-date outflows reached $756 million. Macroeconomic uncertainty and concerns over a prolonged trade war contributed to the withdrawals.

BlackRock Includes Bitcoin ETF in Model Portfolios

In February 2025, BlackRock added IBIT to its model portfolios, which offer preset investment plans with a mix of assets. These portfolios provide exposure to Bitcoin ETFs, allowing investors to participate in the crypto market without managing digital assets directly.

Model portfolios are used by asset managers to offer diversified investments to clients. The addition of IBIT means Bitcoin is now part of BlackRock’s portfolio strategy, increasing its presence in institutional investments.
