Metaplanet Tops Bitcoin Holdings with 1,004 BTC

Japanese investment firm Metaplanet continues to demonstrate its commitment to boosting its Bitcoin holdings. In a recent disclosure, the company revealed the purchase of an additional 1,004 BTC for approximately $104.3 million. The coins were bought at an average price of 103,873 per bitcoin.
A week earlier, the Tokyo-listed firm acquired 1,241 BTC at an average price of $100,968 per bitcoin. The aggregated amount spent was valued at $129 million.
Metaplanet Holds 7800 BTC
According to an X post by the company’s CEO, Simon Gerovich, this acquisition brings the company’s total holdings to 7800 BTC. These holdings were acquired at an aggregate cost of $712.5 million, averaging approximately $91,343 per bitcoin.

The company also reports achieving a YTD 2025 Bitcoin Yield of 189.1%. Following the news of the latest buy, the company’s stock jumped 12.2%, reflecting positive market sentiment.
Metaplanet began accumulating Bitcoin in April 2024 as part of its crypto treasury strategy. This approach was a response to Japan’s economic difficulties, such as high government debt and declining value of the yen. Since then, the company has consistently added to its Bitcoin stash through several substantial purchases. It is steadily growing its holdings toward the goal of purchasing 10,000 BTC by the end of 2025.
Metaplanet’s Bitcoin Strategy
Dubbed the “Asia Strategy,” the Tokyo-listed firm has been funding its Bitcoin purchases through multiple bond issuances. Most recently, it announced a $15 million offering last week, which is its 15th sale of ordinary bonds.
The firm’s Bitcoin strategy has paid off as it is the largest publicly listed corporate Bitcoin holder in Asia. According to data from Bitcointreasuries.net, the company holds the 11th position globally. Michael Saylor’s Strategy tops the list with 568,840 BTC.
Metaplanet’s latest BTC purchase comes amid a rally that has pushed the largest crypto asset near its all-time high. At the time of writing, Bitcoin trades at $103,255, representing a 0.68% decline in the last 24 hours.
