  • Hong Kong’s crypto conference faces backlash as local officials withdraw over Eric Trump’s involvement.
  • Political tensions rise as Hong Kong officials pull out of Bitcoin Asia 2025 over Trump link.
  • Eric Trump remains a central figure at Bitcoin Asia, despite growing political controversy in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong’s largest crypto event, Bitcoin Asia 2025, is facing controversy. Two local officials have pulled out. This follows the announcement that Eric Trump, son of U.S. President Donald Trump, will headline the event.

According to sources, officials withdrew due to Trump’s participation. Lawmakers were advised to avoid events featuring him. The concern was that attending could be seen as supporting the U.S. administration. This shows the political pressures Hong Kong faces while trying to grow its crypto hub.

The withdrawals of key figures like Eric Yip Chee-hang and legislator Johnny Ng Kit-chong highlight these challenges. The move emphasizes Hong Kong’s delicate position amid growing tensions between China and the U.S. The U.S. has imposed tariffs on Hong Kong exports, adding to the complexity.

Eric Trump’s Role at Bitcoin Asia 2025

Despite the controversy, Eric Trump remains a key figure at Bitcoin Asia. He is set to lead two sessions, including one titled “All in on Bitcoin.” Trump’s involvement in the crypto sector continues to grow. He co-founded American Bitcoin, a mining company, and World Liberty Financial. His participation in the event reflects the Trump administration’s push for U.S. leadership in digital assets.

Hong Kong is still determined to strengthen its position in the digital asset market. The government’s Policy Statement 2.0, introduced in June, aims to make Hong Kong a top crypto hub. Additionally, a new stablecoin ordinance offers more options for cost-effective cross-border transactions. However, the political situation could complicate Hong Kong’s goals.
