Key Insights:

  • Bitcoin ETF outflows reached $225.2 million on July 23.
  • Bitcoin fell below $65,000 as U.S. equities weakened.
  • Ether funds attracted $26.3 million during the same session.

U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds recorded $225.2 million in net outflows on July 23. The reversal ended a seven-session inflow streak as Bitcoin fell below $65,000. SoSoValue data showed investors shifted toward Ether funds during the same session.

The move mattered because ETF demand had supported Bitcoin’s rebound from July lows. Nearly $1 billion entered the funds during the previous seven sessions. Thursday’s reversal tested whether institutional demand could withstand pressure from equities and geopolitical risk.

Bitcoin ETF Outflow Coincided with BTC Price Weakness

CoinGecko data showed the BTC price fell to an intraday low near $64,600. Bitcoin later recovered toward $65,400 but remained below the previous session’s local high.

The price of Bitcoin also tracked weakness across U.S. risk assets. Renewed tensions between the U.S. and Iran pressured equity markets during Thursday trading. Bitcoin’s reaction showed that traditional markets still influenced short-term crypto positioning.

Alternative.me placed its Crypto Fear and Greed Index at 28 on Friday. The reading fell three points and remained within the “fear” category. Weak sentiment increased the market’s sensitivity to fund redemptions and equity losses.

Despite Thursday’s reversal, SoSoValue data showed the funds remained positive for the week. Net inflows stood near $274 million through July 23. One negative session had therefore not erased the earlier recovery.

Bitcoin ETF Flows Showed Uneven Institutional Demand

The seven-session streak brought almost $1 billion into spot Bitcoin funds. Barron’s cited Exness analyst Li Xing, who described the rebound as modest against earlier withdrawals. May and June produced about $6.9 billion in combined outflows.

That comparison limited the strength of the bullish interpretation. A short inflow streak improved marginal demand but did not reverse the broader withdrawal trend.

Citi had already reduced its 12-month Bitcoin target to $82,000 on July 1. Reuters reported that the bank cut its prior $112,000 target after ETF demand weakened.

The bank also reduced its assumed 2026 net ETF inflows from $10 billion to zero. Citi linked the revision to softer investor interest and delayed U.S. crypto legislation.

BlackRock’s first-quarter filing showed how Bitcoin movements directly affected fund net asset value. The iShares Bitcoin Trust’s financial-statement net asset value fell 22.15% during the quarter.

Bitcoin’s price declined 22.10% over the same period. The filing showed why sustained redemptions could matter for fund assets and market liquidity.

Spot funds hold Bitcoin directly and process share creations or redemptions through authorized participants. Persistent withdrawals can therefore coincide with underlying Bitcoin sales.

Bitcoin ETF Reversal Met Cautious Futures Pricing

Chicago Mercantile Exchange data showed July Bitcoin futures near $65,185 on Friday. August futures traded around $65,440, while September contracts stood near $65,705.

The shallow upward curve suggested limited near-term optimism. Futures still priced modest gains beyond the spot market, but narrow spreads showed restrained demand.

That structure aligned with Bitcoin’s failure to hold above $66,000. The asset reached that area earlier in the week before retreating.

A renewed break above that level would strengthen the short-term recovery case. Failure to reclaim it could keep Bitcoin within its July trading range.

Ether funds showed a different allocation pattern. SoSoValue recorded $26.3 million in net inflows on July 23. The result extended the Ether ETF inflow streak to five sessions.

Fidelity’s FETH led Ether products with about $14.9 million. Morgan Stanley’s Bitcoin fund recorded roughly $5 million in inflows. Those figures showed investors had not exited crypto funds uniformly.

Bitcoin ETF Outlook Hinged on the $64,000 Support Zone

Bitcoin remained above the $64,000 area after Thursday’s decline. That level marked the nearest support zone from recent trading.

A sustained break could expose the earlier July consolidation range near $60,000. The first resistance remained between $66,000 and $67,000.

Barron’s technical analysis identified $67,000 as a potential breakout area this week. The report also placed broader weekly support near $60,000.

A daily close above resistance could restore short-term momentum. Another rejection would keep the price of Bitcoin vulnerable to renewed selling pressure.

ETF flow data for July 24 will provide the next measurable demand signal. Continued outflows would weaken the seven-day recovery narrative. Renewed inflows would suggest Thursday represented a temporary allocation shift.
