My Ethereum conundrum

I am fairly new to crypto world. I have seen coins being dubbed as Ethereum killers. People say Ethereum's gas fees is high, eth has low number of transactions and whole lot reasons. Other cryptos say that they are better than Ethereum and solve issues that eth can't but Ethereum is still going up. What are you seeing in Ethereum that I'm not seeing ?
