Breaking The Ice: Canadian XRP Options Hit USA Markets

XRP just garnered a special status in Canada, as the country’s top financial regulator approved a legal bridge between United States capital & XRP-based financial products on the stock markets. Specifically, this ties into XRP-ETF based options, which provide traders with an expiration date when trading.

Major Canadian banks are now able to comfortably step into this asset class via regulated wrappers. Judging from the Canadian SEC’s legal documentation, Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corp's (CDCC) just cleared two particularly important XRP-based items, XRP Evolve ETF & XRP Purpose ETF for trading in the United States.

CDCC’s latest 8-K Form filing suggests that these XRP based market items have already been successfully deployed on the Montreal Exchange since the start of 2026. This by default puts XRP in the top-tier digital asset category alongside Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) & Solana (SOL), all of which are now approved for ETF options.

This regulatory shift particularly matters because of the timing. As the XRP options got approved, two major Canadian banks disclosed their inaugural filings with towering XRP exposure. To illustrate, National Bank of Canada revealed a $330K stake in the Bitwise ETF. 

Earlier, the 13F-HR form from Bank Of Montreal confirmed more than 350 XRP-related shares.

However, it’s important to note these Canadian banks aren’t forced to directly buy Ripple’s XRP coin on the Spot markets. Instead, find confidence in XRP’s ecosystem from a regulatory outlook, only exposing themselves to what’s already available on Wall Street-regulated markets.

Touching XRP through a wrapper gives an extra layer of security to the traditional stock market investor.

For the less technologically savvy, there’s another key factor at play: investors can still time their XRP plays properly in a regulated environment, without ever having to securely store self-custodial wallet seedphrases - the XRP options settle on-balance once they expire.
