Square Enix becomes a validator on the Tezos blockchain, deepening its blockchain push as the Tezos gaming ecosystem expands.

Square Enix has become a node validator on the Tezos blockchain, marking its latest step into the blockchain sector.

The move means the gaming company is now operating a baker node on Tezos, helping validate transactions and support the functioning of the blockchain network.

The announcement was made on Thursday by Tezos, which described the development as an important addition to one of its most stable and energy-efficient blockchain networks.

By taking on this role, Square Enix is moving beyond investment activity and becoming directly involved in the operation of blockchain infrastructure.

Square Enix joins Tezos network

Square Enix is one of the best-known names in global gaming, with a long record of developing and publishing major entertainment franchises.

The company said its decision to operate a baker node reflects its continued interest in exploring new technologies and understanding how blockchain systems work in practice.

Hideaki Uehara, General Manager of Investment and Business Development at Square Enix Holdings, said:

“Square Enix has invested in various blockchain initiatives over the years. Operating a baker node on Tezos allows us to participate in and better understand this technology while contributing to the network's operations.”

The latest move builds on earlier blockchain-related investments by the company. Square Enix has previously invested in Soccerverse, HyperPlay, and The Sandbox.

Its involvement with Tezos now suggests a broader strategy that includes both investment and operational participation in blockchain projects.

Tezos executives presented the development as a significant endorsement from a major player in the gaming industry.

Efe Kucuk, head of gaming at Trilitech, the Tezos research and development hub, said:

"Having Square Enix as a validator brings tremendous credibility to the Tezos network. Their reputation in gaming makes them an ideal partner as we continue to demonstrate Tezos’ potential beyond traditional applications. We're excited to see how their expertise might contribute to the evolution of gaming."

Tezos gaming ecosystem expands

The announcement comes as Tezos says its gaming ecosystem is gaining momentum.

The Tezos gaming platform reached 440,000 unique users and processed 31 million transactions in 2025.

The network is evolving into a mature platform that supports a wide range of games, from casual mobile titles to AAA multiplayer experiences.

The company framed Square Enix’s involvement as further evidence that established publishers are taking a closer look at blockchain as a platform for next-generation gaming.
