Ripple has made headlines today with a hefty donation toward the introduction of a crypto-friendly figure in the Senate. The blockchain company gave $1 million to the new Super Political Action Committee (PAC) specifically set up to unseat Senator Warren and replace her with the pro-XRP lawyer, John Deaton.

Senator Elizabeth Warren, a former law professor and currently the United States senator from Massachusetts, is known for her stance against crypto hence the crypto community rally behind Deaton. Earlier this year, Brad Garlinghouse and Chris Larsen, two top Ripple executives also gave individual donations to the cause.

Ripple’s $1 Million Donation Rallies Community

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Fox Business journalist, Eleanor Terrett, reported the significant update which has caused a stir in the crypto community. According to her, the XRP-issuing company, Ripple Labs contributed $1 million to the Super PAC, a Commonwealth Unity Fund founded by lawyer James Murphy, popularly known as MetaLawMan on X.

The new donation, along with others from supporters, will help to advance John Deaton’s candidacy as the next Senator from Massachusetts. Deaton, who is a former U.S. Marine, has played a major role in promoting cryptocurrency in the United States. Notably, he has been highly involved in the Ripple vs. SEC lawsuit, specifically playing a part in the Judge Torres ruling that declared that the programmatic sales of XRP do not constitute investment contracts.

Reacting to the post by Terrett, James Murphy highlighted the significance of the coming election and the need to be fully involved. In a post on his X page, he said, “For me and my family, this election is simply too important to just stand on the sidelines.” Furthermore, he stressed the importance of having a pro-crypto figure like Deaton in the Senate while rallying the community to support by visiting the designated website.

Meanwhile, Ripple and its executives are not the only key figures in the crypto community to have donated to the campaign. Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson also donated the maximum allowed for individual contributions, $6,600 to the cause. Other key figures who have contributed include Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, the co-founders of Gemini, Jameson Lopp, Casa co-founder, and Scaramucci. According to data from the Federal Election Commission website, the total donation received by the Commonwealth Unity Fund so far is $1.05 million.

Community Reaction

Following the post by Eleanor Terrett, the crypto community, particularly the XRP army has expressed their excitement toward the development. Taking to X, they pour in their endorsements for the Deaton candidacy.

One user Kevin O’Malley emphasized the selfless service Deaton has done for XRP particularly his pro bono services for XRP holders. He praised Deaton by saying, “You have a true heart and genuinely care for the constituents you will soon represent. What a great thing MetaLawMan has created, thank you for what you contribute to the crypto community as well. Another user Sisma, joked about moving everyone to Massachusetts.

As the U.S. Senate election comes closer, the crypto community is observing to see how things unfold. It is important to note that whoever takes the seat in the aftermath is going to be determined by support which translates to votes.
