Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s interview with American television host Tucker Carlson has sparked considerable interest and speculation regarding Russia’s stance within the BRICS framework and global financial and political dominance.

This interview offers insights into Russia’s diplomatic strategies, especially concerning NATO’s perceptions and its role in the international arena. As one of the BRICS nations, Russia’s interactions with the West, particularly through media platforms like Carlson’s, shed light on the intricacies of global power dynamics and the role of alternative narratives.

Putin tells it as it is – Do you want to hear?

Tucker Carlson, a right-wing television provocateur, interviewed Vladimir Putin in Moscow. It was Putin’s first interview with a Western media personality since his forces invaded Ukraine two years ago.

Putin told Carlson that Russia had not achieved its war goals in its widely condemned invasion of neighboring Ukraine, and he began the interview with a roughly 20-minute, mostly uninterrupted speech about history that included the reign of Catherine the Great, Russia’s empress from 1762 to 1796.

The interview was posted on Carlson’s website around 6 p.m. Thursday, and it was also shared on Carlson’s X account. Elon Musk’s social networking platform, X, has been banned in Russia since the beginning of the war, as have Facebook and Instagram.

In the interview, Putin denied having territorial ambitions across Europe, saying he would only send troops into surrounding countries if attacked first.

It is absolutely out of the question. You just don’t have to be any kind of analyst, it goes against common sense to get involved in some kind of a global war, and a global war will bring all of humanity to the brink of devastation […] It’s obvious.

During a two-hour interview in which Putin discussed the history of Eastern Europe and Russia, the Russian leader stated that his government is in contact with the United States and that a peaceful resolution to the conflict is only possible if Washington stops supplying weapons to Ukraine.

I will tell you what we are saying on this matter and what we are conveying to the US leadership […] If you really want to stop fighting, you need to stop supplying weapons. It will be over within a few weeks, that’s it, and then we can agree on some terms. Before you do that, stop.

Why did Tucker Carlson interview Putin?

Turker stated in the interview preview that he wanted the other side of the ongoing geopolitical war to be heard. Putin stated that he has “never refused” to negotiate peace with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but Moscow has yet to fulfill its aims in Ukraine, including “de-Nazification.”

Vladimir Putin goes on to handle war propaganda, stating, “In the war of propaganda, it is very difficult to defeat the United States. Because the United States controls all of the world’s media” – President Putin

Russia is also a part of the rising BRICS economic bloc. The bloc is heavily focused on de-dollarization, and on that front, President Putin says, “To use the dollar as a tool of foreign policy struggle is one of the biggest strategic mistakes made by the U.S. political leadership.”

On BRICS, he was questioned on his worry that he was replacing one colonial power with another, which he called Bogeyman stories.

When asked by Carlson if he would be prepared to release imprisoned Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich as a “sign of your decency,” the Russian leader replied a deal is conceivable, and there is “no taboo” in resolving the problem.

We have done so many gestures of goodwill out of decency that I think we have run out of them. No, we have never seen anyone reciprocate to us in a similar manner. However, in theory, we can say that we do not rule out that we can do that if our partners take reciprocal steps.

Gershkovich has been jailed in Russia since March 2023 on spying claims that Washington has dismissed as “baseless.”

According to the Kremlin, Putin agreed to meet with Carlson because he provided a more balanced perspective on the Ukraine conflict.
