Ripple CLO Hints At CLARITY Act As XRP Holders Watch Closely

XRP just posted its sharpest weekly gain in months. It’s not hard to see why. Ripple’s top lawyer just called out a specific date.
That date could decide whether U.S. crypto regulation finally moves forward this year.
What Alderoty Actually Said
Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stuart Alderoty spoke to The Block at the Wyoming Blockchain Symposium.
He said September 15 will be a “bellwether mark as to whether this continues to advance through Congress.” He was referring to a Senate procedural vote on the CLARITY Act.

That’s the crypto market-structure bill. It would split oversight of digital assets between the SEC and CFTC. “There is a viable path for Clarity,” Alderoty said.
He noted the vote needs 60 senators to agree just to open debate. It doesn’t pass the bill itself.
Why September 15 Specifically Matters
Senate Majority Leader John Thune filed cloture on the motion to proceed on August 8. That happened just before the chamber left for its five-week recess.
The vote is set for 2:15 p.m. ET on September 15. That’s the day after senators return. Republicans hold 53 seats.
They need at least seven Democratic votes to clear the 60-vote threshold, according to Yahoo Finance. That math has proven difficult so far.
Prediction market XO priced the odds of the bill becoming law in 2026 at just 19.5% as of August 19. That’s down from roughly 30% a week earlier.
A Long, Bumpy Road To This Point
This legislative path hasn’t been smooth. The Senate Banking Committee advanced the bill in a bipartisan 15-9 vote back in May.
It pulled in Democratic support from Senators Ruben Gallego and Angela Alsobrooks. Republicans backed it unanimously.
That same session drew sharp pushback too. Senator Elizabeth Warren warned the legislation could blow up the economy.
Coinbase complicated things further in January. CEO Brian Armstrong pulled the exchange’s support. He said provisions would restrict tokenized equities and block DeFi freedoms.
That move pushed the Senate Banking Committee to postpone its scheduled markup at the time.
What Failure Would Actually Mean
The White House has framed this vote in stark terms. Patrick Witt is executive director of the Presidential Council of Advisors for Digital Assets.
He said flatly that if lawmakers can’t get there by September 15, they never will, according to reporting on his remarks.
The Senate returns with only 14 working days before an October election recess. A full House and roughly a third of Senate seats sit on the ballot in November.
The legislative calendar leaves little room for a second attempt this year. That’s true if the cloture vote fails.
How Is The Ticker Reacting?
As of the latest CoinGecko reading on August 20, 2026 (08:00 UTC), XRP trades at $1.11. That’s up 9.6% over the past seven days.

Price broke sharply higher on August 19. It jumped from roughly $1.00 to above $1.11 in a single session.
That move had been building quietly since mid-August lows near the psychological $1.00 mark.
Will September 15 turn into the breakthrough Ripple’s legal chief is hoping for?
Or will it bring another delay that pushes U.S. crypto regulation into 2027? The whole market will be watching for an answer in less than a month.
