In a development within the community, ADAMANT Messenger & Wallet has announced that it will not support the upcoming migration of Lisk (LSK) from its Layer 1 (L1) blockchain to the Ethereum/Optimism Layer 2 (L2) solution. This decision marks a pivotal shift in ADAMANT’s strategy, diverging from its historical support for previous Lisk migrations.

Key details of the Lisk ⟶ Optimism Migration

  • End of Lisk L1 blockchain: The Lisk L1 blockchain is set to cease operations at block 24,823,618, anticipated to occur on May 21, 2024, around 8:00 AM CET
  • Transition to Optimism: Lisk’s migration involves a shift from its native L1 blockchain to an L2 solution on Ethereum, facilitated through the Optimism network. This move is aimed at enhancing scalability and interoperability within the Ethereum ecosystem.
  • Previous LSK support in ADAMANT apps: Historically, ADAMANT has supported all major Lisk migrations from version 1 through version 4. However, the shift to an Ethereum-based L2 represents a strategic realignment that ADAMANT has chosen not to follow.
  • Introducing Kalyr (KLY): The new Klayr team will support the previously known Lisk L1 network, and ADAMANT is going to offer the best KLY wallet, allowing in-chat KLY transfers

Implications for LSK holders

LSK L1 token holders are advised to transfer their holdings from the ADAMANT to the Lisk Desktop wallet to facilitate a 1-to-1 swap for LSK L2 tokens. This process is essential to receive new LSK L2 tokens. ADAMANT Messenger & Wallet will not support LSK migration.

All transfers must be completed before May 21st to ensure a seamless transition to the L2 tokens.

ADAMANT’s support for Klayr (KLY)

In a notable pivot, ADAMANT has declared its support for the Klayr network, which will be the new identity for the original Lisk L1 blockchain. The Klayr (KLY) coin will be supported within ADAMANT’s wallet applications, allowing all token operations and in-chat transfers.

As stated by the Klayr team, they will airdrop KLY coins to LSK holders based on their holding at the time of the snapshot. While ADAMANT users with LSK in their wallets are eligible for the airdrop, we can’t guarantee that future Klayr’s wallet private key will match Lisk’s. Along with LSK ⟶ L2 migration, we strongly advise you to move LSK to the Lisk Desktop wallet.

We’ll notify you about details of supporting KLY in the ADAMANT Messenger & Wallet as soon as the Klayr team provides more technical details about the new blockchain and its node and API.

The process for validators to complete the migration can take up to one week after the snapshot.

Conclusion

This announcement is a critical juncture for both ADAMANT and the Lisk community. As ADAMANT steps back from supporting the Lisk migration to an Ethereum-based layer, it reaffirms its commitment to the Klayr network, potentially reshaping its user base and operational focus.

For Lisk users, the migration presents an opportunity to leverage the enhanced capabilities of the Ethereum ecosystem, albeit with the need to adapt to new processes and platforms. As the cryptocurrency landscape continues to evolve, these strategic decisions will undoubtedly influence the trajectories of the involved parties and their stakeholders.
