Hyperliquid’s Unlock Could Become a Blueprint for Future HYPE Supply Events

Hyperliquid’s unlock could become a blueprint for how high-conviction protocols manage supply without destroying price.
On May 6, 2026, Hyperliquid released 9.92 million HYPE tokens — worth approximately $375.84 million — to Core Contributors.
The event accounted for roughly 58% of the entire week’s total crypto unlock value across all projects. A release that size would typically trigger a sharp sell-off. What happened instead was revealing.
A Supply Event That Didn’t Break the Market
The unlock follows a monthly cadence on the sixth of each month.
Co-founder Iliensinc confirmed distributions would follow this schedule going forward — a structured release designed to give the market time to anticipate and absorb each wave of supply rather than be surprised by it.
The protocol’s aggressive buyback program plays a direct role in absorbing selling pressure.
Funded by trading fees from its high-volume perpetual DEX, the Hyperliquid Assistance Fund consistently acquires HYPE from the open market — providing a structural floor for the price even during broader market corrections.
The HIP-4 protocol introduced native prediction markets to HyperEVM, requiring users to stake 1 million HYPE to launch a new event market.
This creates a significant supply sink — effectively removing large quantities of HYPE from circulating supply on an ongoing basis.
Bitwise filed a second amended S-1 for a spot Hyperliquid ETF (BHYP) in the U.S. A Hyperliquid Staking ETP also launched on Germany’s Deutsche Börse Xetra — regulated investment products that lower the barrier for traditional capital and stabilise long-term demand.
In the past 24 hours alone, Hyperliquid recorded $1,994,691 in fees and an equal amount in project revenue.
The next unlock is scheduled for June 6, 2026 — another 9.92 million HYPE for Core Contributors, worth approximately $429 million at current prices.
What the Charts Show After the Unlock
HYPEUSD (Weekly): As of May 09, 2026 (13:34 UTC), HYPE trades at $43.71, up +1.02% on the week. It is approaching its cycle high of $45.79.

The Parabolic SAR at $31.51 sits well below price — confirming the weekly trend is bullish.
Price has climbed sharply off the lows, carving a sequence of higher lows with each passing week.
The key resistance zone sits between $43.76 and $45.77. A decisive breakout above that range targets $50.
The chart shows no sign of a post-unlock distribution pattern. Buyers absorbed the supply.
HYPEBTC (Weekly): Against Bitcoin, HYPE sits at 0.00054123 — approaching its cycle high of 0.00066281.
The Parabolic SAR at 0.00041347 remains below price. The RSI Divergence Indicator reads 58.17 — healthy momentum, not yet overbought.
The RSI climbed sharply from the launch lows and has stabilised in bullish mid-range territory.

HYPE is outperforming Bitcoin on a relative basis.
That kind of strength on the BTC pair, right after a significant unlock event, is one of the strongest signals of genuine demand absorption the market can produce.
The Unlock Passed; The Bid Remains
$15.2 million in HYPE was moved from Coinbase to staking on May 6 — the same day as the unlock.
A new address withdrew tokens specifically to stake them, signalling long-term holding intent rather than sell pressure.
The supply hit the market. The buyers were already there. If June’s unlock plays out the same way, Hyperliquid may have quietly written the template for how DeFi protocols handle supply events — and the market may still be underestimating what that means.
