What to Know

- A dormant whale purchased 76,856 SOL worth approximately $8 million through Hyperliquid following roughly eight months of recorded wallet inactivity.
- Futures volume reached $7.82 billion while $6.64 billion open interest increased leverage risks around Solana’s crucial $100 support level.
Solana (SOL) has ended a year of monthly losses by recording its first positive candle since September 2025. TradingView data,SOL closed August near $103 following a strong recovery from its cycle low.
The token had fallen from above $250 in late 2025 as sustained selling pressure weakened its broader market structure. However, August delivered gains between 40% and 50%, allowing SOL to reclaim the psychologically important $100 level.
This performance ended the negative monthly streak and created a stronger technical base for buyers entering September. Despite monthly improvement, SOL traded near $102.47 following a 1.28% decline over the previous 24 hours.
Additionally, the token gained 1.15% on August 31 following a 3.54% drop during the preceding session. These movements show traders remain divided over Solana’s ability to advance beyond its recovered price level.

Dormant Solana Whale Purchases 76,856 SOL Through Hyperliquid
According to Lookonchain, a dormant Solana whale returned to the market and purchased 76,856 SOL through Hyperliquid. The transaction carried an estimated value of $8 million and originated from wallet 6ESYXA following eight months of inactivity.
Significantly, the purchase adds to whale activity as large investors assess Solana’s improved monthly performance. However, the transfer does not reveal whether the holder intends to retain tokens or deploy them through further market trades.
Solana Futures Volume Exceeds Spot Market Activity
Meanwhile, derivatives activity remains substantially greater than spot trading, increasing the influence of leveraged positions over SOL’s price. Solana recorded roughly $7.82 billion in futures volume within 24 hours, compared with approximately $738.76 million in spot volume.
Moreover, open interest stood near $6.64 billion, showing traders maintain considerable exposure through active derivatives contracts. The wide difference between futures and spot activity suggests leveraged traders currently influence Solana’s short-term market direction.
Consequently, forced position closures could intensify volatility if SOL loses $100 support or moves rapidly above nearby resistance. SOL maintains a market capitalization near $59.82 billion, keeping it among the largest cryptocurrency assets.
Although buyers have improved the monthly structure, maintaining support above $100 remains essential for preserving recovery momentum. Solana must establish firmer support before traders can confirm its broader monthly trend has changed.
