Canadian Parliamentarian Acknowledges Bitcoin (BTC) Creation

Tuesday, October 31st, held particular significance for Bitcoin (BTC). It marked the 15th anniversary of the publication of the Bitcoin whitepaper. This occasion prompted Canadian parliamentarian Joël Lightbound to express gratitude to its enigmatic creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

During a parliamentary session, the MP addressed fellow legislators, strongly encouraging them to study this cryptocurrency. While not openly advocating for the purchase of the asset, he admitted to holding certain units.

Joël Lightbound emphasized the importance of understanding this revolutionary digital asset. He particularly noted that Bitcoin, emerging in a financial crisis context, has remarkably emerged as a powerful tool for empowering marginalized populations.

According to him, Bitcoin (BTC) has played a role in safeguarding families against the dangers of monetary depreciation while championing truly progressive ideals. As such, the MP expressed his gratitude to the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto, extending best wishes on the 15th anniversary of the Bitcoin whitepaper.

During his speech, the Canadian MP referenced the ideas of prominent figures in the crypto and financial sectors. This notably involved Jack Dorsey, former CEO of Twitter and a prominent Bitcoin advocate, and Gary Gensler, the current head of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

The inclusion of Gary Gensler in this speech raised eyebrows, especially due to his perceived stance against cryptos since taking the helm at the SEC. However, the MP’s citation of the SEC chief’s remarks refers to a statement made in 2019, predating his appointment as SEC chairman.

It’s worth noting that in 2019, Gary Gensler authored an opinion piece recognizing the existence of numerous projects within the crypto ecosystem. He commended the initiative started by Satoshi Nakamoto for its potential as a change catalyst, particularly in reducing verification and networking expenses, thereby promoting economic inclusion.

On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the Bitcoin whitepaper, the SEC head conveyed congratulations to Satoshi Nakamoto via X (Twitter). Simultaneously, he posted a compliance-focused message, urging crypto companies to adhere to securities laws and cease misleading investors.
