- Dogecoin declined alongside broader crypto markets as liquidations increased and falling futures open interest.
Dogecoin cofounder Billy Markus has revealed that paying for a ride on the Las Vegas Loop with DOGE remains his most memorable cryptocurrency experience. According to Markus, who posts on X as Shibetoshi Nakamoto, using Dogecoin for a real-world purchase stands above every other crypto-related activity he has experienced.
His remarks came in response to a post from ITrustCapital, which invited users to share the most crypto-related thing they had done over the weekend. According to Markus, his answer reached further back, yet it remained his top example of cryptocurrency utility.
Markus wrote that buying a ride on the Las Vegas Loop with Dogecoin was still the “most crypto thing” he had done. He also noted that the trip did not happen during the weekend, but it remained his favorite crypto memory.

Las Vegas Loop payment reflects Dogecoin’s everyday utility
The payment Markus referenced dates back to July 2022, when Elon Musk’s Boring Company enabled Dogecoin payments for rides on the Las Vegas Loop. Consequently, passengers gained the option to purchase rides using DOGE instead of conventional payment methods.
That announcement attracted widespread attention because it demonstrated a practical use case for the cryptocurrency beyond trading. Moreover, it allowed Markus to experience paying for a real-world service with the digital asset he helped create alongside Jackson Palmer in 2013.
His latest X reply brought renewed attention to that milestone while highlighting how cryptocurrency adoption extends beyond investment and speculation. According to Markus, the experience remains unmatched among his personal blockchain moments.
Broader market weakness pressures Dogecoin
Markus’ comments arrived as the cryptocurrency market traded lower. CoinGlass data showed roughly $604 million in liquidations during the broader market decline. Additionally, uncertainty surrounding the U.S. Clarity Act and weaker global market sentiment weighed on digital assets.
Dogecoin also moved lower during the selloff. At the time of reporting, DOGE traded around $0.07 after declining 3.57% over the previous 24 hours and 4.51% during the past week. Besides the price decline, open interest in DOGE futures also fell, suggesting some traders reduced their market exposure.
Conclusion
Markus later described Bitcoin’s prolonged decline as “really boring” in another X post, while emphasizing Dogecoin’s real-world payment utility instead of short-term market performance.
