In spite of no immediate changes in the United States crypto policy after last week’s landmark crypto summit at the White House, XRP has entered the broader picture as a possible means to settle the $40 trillion United States government debt.
In a recent interview with Newsmax, Vice President J.D. Vance was asked a question about XRP. Carl Higbie, the Journalist that happens to be the show host, asked if the nation’s crypto currency reserve could offset these multi-trillion liabilities.
In response, J.D. Vance offered the idea of a sovereign wealth fund that would help the government’s case. The crypto reserve idea including XRP was previously floated by Donald Trump, but the offsetting process hasn’t really taken shape yet.
“American tax payers are getting fleeced” with high debt rates, so economic growth edging out the government debt would be the best way to go, says J.D. Vance. What part specifically XRP plays in this vision is unclear yet, as much depends on the CLARITY Act.
Despite getting postponed till September’s Senate session, the White House chief of staff has explicitly pushed the colleagues to finalize the hallmark crypto bill. According to the latest legal reporting from the White House, there’s a need of 10 more Democratic votes for passage.
On the other hand, Ripple’s CEO Brad Garlinghouse recently expressed his conviction that XRP’s adoption journey on a federal-grade level can continue without the CLARITY Act. The new Trump crypto summit made the legislational framework formidable across a roster of crypto industry leaders, including Ripple’s own CEO & Coinbase’s Founding CEO Brian Armstrong.
For Ripple, the story is specifically favorable due to recent acquisitions of Hidden Road & GTreasury. Converting these prime brokerage firms into Ripple Treasury, the San Francisco-based fintech giant processed beyond $13 trillion in volume last year, but none of it was in crypto - the regulatory vagueness kept XRP under-the-radar despite settling with SEC.
With SEC & Ripple Labs shaking hands over a $50 million deal in the alleged ‘unregistered securities’ case, proving that Ripple’s native XRP token isn’t a security. Presently, it’s treated as a digital commodity, which enables a bright future prospect in terms of nation-wide adoption.
Vance also referred to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s economic strategy, describing it as a plan to get the economy “growing faster than our debt”. With XRP’s deflationary mechanism in contrast to the inflating United States Dollar, the aforementioned XRP-inclusive federal crypto reserve could play a crucial role in the economical renaissance carved out by Mr. Bessent.
