In Brief:
- Ripple CTO emeritus David Schwartz revealed substantial early Ripple stock holdings alongside his previously disclosed personal XRP investments and exposure.
- Ripple reached a $50B private valuation following strategic investment and a $750M share buyback, drawing attention to early equity positions.
- Schwartz remains connected to Ripple through its board, while Ripple Prime raised $275M in senior unsecured notes for expansion financing.
Ripple CTO emeritus David Schwartz has revealed that he accumulated substantial Ripple stock while helping build the company during its formative years. His disclosure highlights financial exposure beyond XRP, which has historically attracted greater attention when discussions turn toward his personal cryptocurrency holdings.
Schwartz Reveals Ripple Stock Accumulated During Company’s Early Years
According to Schwartz, he accumulated “a lot of Ripple stock” during the company’s early years while responding to an X user. The conversation centered on his finances following his transition away from daily responsibilities at the blockchain payments company.

Schwartz did not reveal the number of shares acquired, their purchase price, or the percentage of Ripple he previously owned. However, his response indicates that company equity represented another significant component of his early financial connection to Ripple.
The conversation followed Schwartz’s disclosure that his XRP holdings had declined considerably from the highest level he previously controlled. He revealed that his balance once reached approximately 26 million XRP but currently stands at around 2 million tokens.
That revelation prompted an X user to ask whether Schwartz had received a substantial retirement package following his reduced operational role. Instead of addressing any retirement compensation, Schwartz pointed toward the Ripple shares accumulated during his early involvement with the company.
Ripple’s $50 Billion Valuation Puts Early Stock in Focus
Ripple’s rising private-market valuation gives additional context to Schwartz’s disclosure, although his current equity position remains unknown. The company secured a $500 million strategic investment last November, which valued Ripple at approximately $40 billion.
Moreover, a subsequent $750 million share buyback placed Ripple’s valuation at roughly $50 billion, increasing attention around early company equity. Still, that valuation cannot determine Schwartz’s personal wealth because he provided no details regarding dilution, previous sales, or remaining shares.
Consequently, his remarks only confirm that his financial exposure included substantial Ripple equity alongside the XRP he accumulated during earlier years.
Schwartz Retains Ripple Ties as Company Expands
Schwartz joined Ripple as chief cryptographer before becoming chief technology officer in 2018 and later transitioning into the CTO emeritus position. Additionally, he joined Ripple’s board of directors and became a strategic adviser to XRP treasury company Evernorth.
Meanwhile, Ripple Prime raised $275 million through privately placed senior unsecured notes carrying an 8.25% coupon and maturing in 2031. KBRA assigned the notes a BBB rating, adding another development to Ripple’s broader financial operations.
Schwartz’s disclosure confirms that his early investments extended beyond XRP into Ripple ownership, although the current value of that position remains undisclosed.
