One of Bitcoin’s Oldest Wallets Wakes Up — What Could Be Behind the Move?

A Bitcoin OG wallet has moved all 600 BTC after over 14 years of inactivity. That’s $51.28 million on the move. The wallet had sat completely untouched through four full market cycles.
The Numbers Behind the Move
Arkham Intelligence’s transfer feed shows the transaction in full. The wallet received 600 BTC 14 years ago. That stash was worth just $4,800 at the time. BTC traded at only $8 back then.

The wallet is now sitting on a $51.28 million unrealized profit. That’s a 10,683x return on the original position.
This Isn’t the First Old Wallet to Stir
Bitcoin isn’t the only chain seeing ancient wallets wake up. An Ethereum wallet from the 2015 ICO era woke up earlier this year after 10.6 years of silence, attempting to send 1 ETH before the transaction failed on low gas.
That wallet still held roughly 1,430 ETH, worth close to $2.8 million from an original $443.
Old coins waking up across different chains points to a broader pattern, not a one-off event.
Why Old Coins Keep Waking Up
There are a few common reasons behind moves like this. Early holders sometimes rediscover lost keys.
Others migrate funds to newer, more secure wallets. Estate transfers and inheritance access account for some cases too.
Profit-taking after massive appreciation is the simplest explanation, especially with returns this large.
Dormant coin movements have picked up steadily through 2026, part of a broader trend of early-era supply reactivating as price climbs.
What the Weekly Chart Shows
A TradingView weekly chart created on September 22, 2026, at 11:29 UTC shows BTC/USD at $85,894.21.
That’s a fresh multi-month high, well above the $80,000 level that capped price for most of August.
MACD reads 2,883.20 against a signal line of 984.13, with the histogram at negative 1,899.07 but narrowing fast after a strong green expansion.

The chart shows a fresh SAR flip below price, a signal tied to renewed upward momentum.
Price has cleared the prior swing high near $80,000 with room, putting the next resistance zone closer to $90,000. A pullback toward $80,000 would still keep the broader uptrend intact.
The Bigger Picture on Old Supply
This particular 600 BTC move hasn’t landed on an exchange yet either.
Until it does, this looks more like housekeeping from a patient early holder than the start of new selling pressure.
