Chainlink News: BitGo Joins a $15B Migration Wave to CCIP

Today's biggest Chainlink News involves one of the largest cross-chain infrastructure switches of the year. BitGo (NYSE: BTGO) has named Chainlink's Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP) the exclusive cross-chain infrastructure for Wrapped Bitcoin (WBTC), moving more than $7.7 billion of the token off the provider it selected in September 2024. All future BitGo-issued digital assets will also default to CCIP.

Chainlink News: What BitGo Actually Announced

Per BitGo's own announcement, published August 4, the company will standardize WBTC — described as the largest omnichain fungible token by market capitalization — around Chainlink's Cross-Chain Token (CCT) standard, creating unified deployments across supported blockchains rather than maintaining separate implementations per chain. The crypto custodian said the setup preserves its direct ownership over token contracts, transfer limits, and operational settings, without relying on CCIP-specific code inside its smart contracts.

BitGo CEO and co-founder Mike Belshe said the company has always prioritized security first, and that Chainlink CCIP gives BitGo the controls, reliability, and risk management standards its institutional clients expect as it expands support across more chains. Notably, neither BitGo's blog post nor its X post named its previous provider directly, referring to it only as a "legacy solution" throughout.

Chainlink CCIP News: Why BitGo Made the Switch

BitGo cited four specific reasons for the change. Every CCIP bridge lane is secured by a minimum of 16 independent node operators, distributed across different organizations, regions, and hosting environments. The protocol holds SOC 2 Type 2 and ISO 27001 certifications, which BitGo said no other cross-chain protocol currently holds. The protocol supports issuer-managed rate limits and configurable transfer controls, which the crypto custodian described as functioning like automatic circuit breakers against suspicious activity. And BitGo retains full ownership of its own token deployments under the new setup.

The switch follows directly from a documented failure elsewhere. On April 18, 2026, an exploit tied to Kelp DAO's prior bridge configuration resulted in a loss of roughly $292 million in rsETH, traced specifically to a single-verifier configuration that didn't require a second independent attestor to sign off on transfers. That incident triggered a wave of migrations toward the protocol across the industry — Chainlink's own tally, first published May 20, now counts roughly $15 billion in value migrated across 13 named teams, including Mantle, Lombard, Aave, Kraken, and now BitGo, which tops that list with over $7.7 billion.

Chainlink Institutional News: A Bigger Migration Pattern

Chainlink Labs Chief Business Officer Johann Eid said making CCIP the exclusive cross-chain infrastructure for WBTC and future BitGo-issued assets marks another milestone toward the secure DeFi ecosystem users expect. Per Chainlink's own quarterly review published July 24, CCIP volume reached $4.9 billion in the second quarter of 2026, a 353% year-over-year increase, with migrated cross-chain token value for the quarter exceeding $7 billion. Chainlink's broader infrastructure has reportedly supported more than $32 trillion in cumulative transaction value and secures over $110 billion across DeFi and cross-chain applications.

No chain-by-chain rollout schedule or completion date was included in BitGo's announcement, and the company hasn't disclosed whether other BitGo-supported assets beyond WBTC will eventually migrate as well.

LINK Market Snapshot Today

Chainlink Price as of today, LINK is trading at approximately $8.12, down 1.36% over the past 24 hours, with a market cap near $6.07B. Trading volume over the past 24 hours sits at roughly $203.9 million, with LINK's circulating supply at approximately 748.09 million tokens against a fixed 1 billion total and max supply.

Conclusion

Today's Chainlink News adds one of the largest wrapped Bitcoin products in DeFi to CCIP's growing list of institutional migrations. With BitGo's $7.7 billion WBTC now standardizing on Chainlink's infrastructure, and roughly $15 billion in total migrations tallied since April's Kelp DAO exploit, CCIP continues extending its presence into custody-grade, institutional-facing infrastructure.
