In a significant development, Ripple has partnered with the Wormhole protocol to expand its multichain capabilities. This move aims to enable institutions and developers to move digital assets securely and efficiently, without added complexity or risk.

Ripple’s latest move builds on its existing work with platforms like Axelar and IBC/Cosmos. This demonstrates the network’s focus on providing developers with more ways to connect XRPL features with other blockchain tools.

XRPL Goes Multichain with Wormhole

Per the announcement, Wormhole is integrating with both the XRP Ledger (XRPL) mainnet and the XRPL EVM Sidechain. Wormhole has a strong presence in the market, supporting around 200 applications across more than 35 blockchain ecosystems, including Sui and Avalanche. The protocol will act as a bridge for major tokenized assets and stablecoins.

Additionally, Wormhole facilitates over 1 billion cross-chain messages and more than $60 billion in cross-chain volume since its inception in 2020. With this robust market access, XRPL will enable cross-chain messaging, asset transfers, and multichain issuances of tokens. This will support additional use cases across DeFi, institutional on-chain finance, and real-world assets (RWAs).

Robinson Burkey, co‑founder of the Wormhole Foundation, said this integration will unlock new opportunities across all major blockchains. He believes it enables one of the most established enterprise‑finance networks to tap into greater multichain potential.

XRPL’s Expanding Ecosystem

According to Ripple, this integration builds on XRPL’s strengths as a decentralized blockchain for on-chain finance, offering native support for tokenization and more.

“If you want real mass adoption, interoperability is essential. The infrastructure has to be there, not just on one chain, but across them. With this integration, tokens natively issued on the XRP Ledger are being set up for that reality by being able to move between blockchain networks while maintaining native issuance, and control. And with support from infrastructure like Wormhole, we’re broadening cross-chain capabilities across XRPL and its EVM sidechain—extending the network’s reach without compromising the reliability it was built on,” said David Schwartz, CTO of Ripple and Co-creator of the XRPL.

Meanwhile, Ripple has made significant advancements this month. CoinTab earlier reported that XRPL’s mainnet now natively supports Circle’s USDC stablecoin. DeFi platform Ondo Finance also added XRPL to its on-chain U.S. government debt product.
