Bitwise Investment Advisers said on Sept. 10 that it will liquidate and close the Bitwise Dogecoin ETF (NYSE: BWOW), ending the exchange-traded fund as the asset manager reworks its product lineup. The San Francisco-based sponsor tied the decision to an effort to “optimize its product range to meet evolving investor needs,” according to an announcement the firm published. The closure takes effect immediately, and shareholders will have until mid-October to sell their shares before the fund stops operating.
Liquidation timeline
The last day of trading for BWOW on NYSE Arca is expected to be Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026. Shareholders can sell their shares in the secondary market up to the close of trading that day, after which the fund will cease operations. Bitwise said remaining shareholders will receive the net asset value of their shares as of Oct. 21, 2026, paid in cash on Thursday, Oct. 22, 2026. The staggered schedule leaves investors a roughly five-week window to exit on the secondary market before the fund is delisted, and Bitwise noted that shareholders do not need to take any action during the process.
An orderly wind-down
Bitwise said it has coordinated with the NYSE to ensure an orderly delisting and liquidation of the fund, a process that runs from the announcement through the final cash distribution in late October. The closure takes effect immediately even as issuers continue to roll out new crypto exchange-traded products across the market. Bitwise’s lineup extends beyond single-asset funds: earlier in September the firm launched a tokenized real-world asset lending vault on Morpho, underscoring the product-range optimization the company cited in its announcement.
What holders should know
For current holders, the wind-down is designed to be passive. Investors can either sell before the Oct. 14 cutoff or hold through the liquidation and receive a cash payout reflecting the fund’s net asset value later in October. Because that payout is tied to the fund’s net asset value rather than a fixed price, the final amount each holder receives will depend on Dogecoin’s value at the time of liquidation. Bitwise pointed shareholders to the fund’s prospectus for additional detail and said questions can be directed to the firm. With the announcement now public, the liquidation process is formally underway.
