Infinite Node Foundation (NODE), an American non-profit organization, recently acquired the intellectual property of the popular NFT project CryptoPunks from Yuga Labs. Details of the deal remain publicly unknown. Following the acquisition, the foundation intends to bring the pixelated NFT collection into a permanent home, setting a precedent for preserving digital culture for future generations.

CryptoPunks Changes Ownership

Node Foundation aims to establish a networked ecosystem that supports the evolution and recognition of digital art within the broader art world. The foundation’s strategic focus on NFTs underscores its commitment to innovative digital art initiatives. To achieve this, the non-profit organization plans to showcase all 10,000 CryptoPunks tokens at the foundation’s permanent exhibition space in Palo Alto, U.S.

The Node Foundation has selected an advisory board featuring CryptoPunks’ original artists, Matt Hall and John Watkinson. The board also includes Yuga Labs co-founder Wylie Aronow and Art Blocks founder Erick Calderon. CryptoPunks’ general manager, Natalie Stone, will steward the latest initiative.

CryptoPunks’ Growth Over the Years

Developed by Larva Labs, CryptoPunks launched in June 2017 on the Ethereum network. There are 10,000 pixelated digital collectibles in the collection. These NFTs were initially sent to users for free. Today, the project is the largest NFT project by floor price ranking. It is widely known as the first NFT collection to be traded on a blockchain network. Canadian developers Matt Hall and John Watkinson were key players in the creation and success of CryptoPunks.

Over the years, CryptoPunks has captured the attention of thousands within the NFT market. Even when on-chain activities have drastically reduced within the NFT industry, CryptoPunks continues to record million-dollar sales on secondary marketplaces. For instance, in October 2024, a Punk NFT sold for $56.3 million.

According to on-chain data from NFT Price Floor, CryptoPunks’ floor price is 47.5 ETH ($122,500) as of this writing. This represents a mild 4.17% increase over the past 24 hours. Its 24-hour trading volume soared by over 21% to $2.31 million. Its market capitalization as of press time was $1.22 billion.
