CARE International have been supporting Ukrainians since the start of the conflict with Russia over a year ago.

About the Ukrainian Family’s Artwork

Oleg Mischenko is a Ukrainian artist and member of National Union of Artists in Ukraine. Him, alongside his family who are staying in British politician Matt Hancock’s home have teamed up to launch a 15-piece NFT collection titled ‘From Ukraine, with Love’ featuring artworks of Ukraine.

The family were forced to flee Ukraine last year due to the war in their home country. At first, Oleg attempted to join the country’s army but was not sent to fight due to ill-health. He was then reunited with the rest of his family in Suffolk, which is a couple of hours outside of the country’s capital city, London.

Oleg’s work was previously displayed in the city of Odsea but was shipped into the UK recently. The family have been thriving since their move to the UK. Recently, Hancock announced that the family had found jobs. Also, their 5-year-old daughter, Mariana, has got a place in a local school.

The Details

Coinbase are hosting the sale of the NFTs, and is not taking a fee as usually expected with sales. In this case, 90% of money will go to the aforementioned Care International charity, and 10% will go to the family to support them in a time of need.

Mischenko said: “Selling off my works as part of this NFT collection is a way of serving my country and its people. It’s also my way of defending our cultural values, our philosophy and our European way of life.” His wife added: My husband has captured Ukraine’s beauty.”

Hancock said: “Their spirit and bravery in the face of adversity – like so many Ukrainians – is inspiring. I urge people to help in any way they can. Oleg is an incredibly talented artist and his ‘From Ukraine, With Love’ collection is truly stunning.” He has also claimed that he was “very proud” of Oleg and his family.

For Context: Who is Matt Hancock?

Matt Hancock is a British politician who served as the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care from 2018 to 2021.

Hancock’s personal life has been the subject of controversy. In 2021, during the COVID-19 pandemic, Hancock was embroiled in another scandal when CCTV footage emerged of him kissing an aide (his now partner) in his office in violation of social distancing rules.

In addition to his political career, Hancock appeared on the reality TV show “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!”. He competed last year, where he ate insects and performed other stunts to win votes from viewers. Eventually making the final, he was apparently controversially paid £320,000 ($380,000+).

Following his resignation as Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Hancock has returned to the backbenches of Parliament as the MP for West Suffolk.
