According to the latest blog post, Wemade’s subsidiary Lightscale has officially launched its Kroma Mainnet, an Ethereum Layer 2 (L2) solution that boasts a 100% Zero-Knowledge (ZK) Rollup architecture. This robust innovation is set to enhance the scalability, speed, and security of blockchain transactions, marking a beginning in decentralized solutions.

Kroma Brings 100% ZK Rollup Solution

Lightscale, a subsidiary of Wemade, has successfully launched its Kroma Mainnet. This Ethereum Layer 2 solution aims to tackle the blockchain trilemma—scalability, speed, and high transaction fees—that has plagued Ethereum’s Layer 1. With the integration of optimistic rollup and Zero-Knowledge (ZK) proof, Kroma is setting a new standard for Layer 2 solutions.

As more services and applications continue to onboard Ethereum’s Layer 1, the network faces increasing challenges. Transaction speeds have slowed, scalability has reached its limits, and gas fees have skyrocketed. This phenomenon, known as the blockchain trilemma, has been a significant hurdle for the widespread adoption of blockchain.

Kroma Mainnet employs a unique technology that merges optimistic rollup, which is already widely used, with ZK fault proof. While optimistic rollup is less technically challenging, ZK rollup can achieve block finality much faster. Lightscale has announced plans to upgrade Kroma to a 100% ZK rollup architecture, further enhancing its capabilities.

Kroma is set to mint its native token, KRO, by mid-2024. The tokenomics of KRO is designed to encourage active participation in the ecosystem. Unlike other tokens, there will be no pre-minting or pre-mining of KRO. A new block will be generated every two seconds, and KRO tokens will be minted and distributed as rewards to users and decentralized applications (dApps). The more transactions generated by a user or dApp, the more tokens they will receive, creating a virtuous cycle of ecosystem expansion.

Kroma’s Focus On Game-Onboarding

Initially, Kroma will focus on game-onboarding, with Night Crows being one of the first games to be serviced on the chain. The global blockchain version of this hit MMORPG, published by Wemade, is expected to be released this December. However, Lightscale has broader ambitions. It plans to expand the Kroma ecosystem to include other Web3 functionalities, such as Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). A portion of Kroma’s Ecosystem Fund will be allocated to encourage dApps to join its growing ecosystem.

To enhance community engagement, 10% of KRO tokens will be distributed to the WEMIX community through various mechanisms, including rewards for WEMIX stakers. This strategy aims to contribute to the expansion of the WEMIX ecosystem.

ZK Rollups not only enhance scalability but also offer robust security features. By using cryptographic proofs, ZK Rollups ensure that all transactions are legitimate without revealing any sensitive information. This makes them highly secure and resistant to fraud. Additionally, ZK Rollups can significantly increase the TPS, allowing for more transactions to be processed in a shorter amount of time.

Currently, WeMade, the issuer of the virtual asset WEMIX, is under scrutiny by South Korean regulators. The challenges faced by Wemix, a cryptocurrency launched last year by South Korean gaming company Wemade, have sounded a cautionary note for both investors and regulatory bodies in a digital currency market that remains largely unregulated despite its global scale.

Concerns intensified notably when Wemade surpassed the initially promised allocation of Wemix to fund the company’s business growth.
