In Brief:
- Ripple unlocked one billion XRP through four October escrow transactions carrying a combined value of approximately $1.49 billion at execution.
- Historical escrow returns suggest Ripple could retain 200 million to 300 million XRP, although October’s actual allocation still requires confirmation.
- XRPScan reported approximately 31.85 billion XRP in escrow, while unlocked tokens do not automatically represent exchange deposits or confirmed sales.
Ripple released 1 billion XRP from escrow for October, but subsequent returns will determine how much remains available for allocation. According to Whale Alert, four transactions completed the scheduled unlock, carrying a combined value of approximately $1.49 billion.
The largest transaction released 400 million XRP, worth approximately $595.64 million at execution, while another unlocked 300 million XRP. Whale Alert valued the second transfer at approximately $446.73 million, making these transactions the largest portions of October’s release.
Meanwhile, two smaller transactions unlocked 200 million and 100 million XRP, valued at approximately $297.82 million and $148.91 million, respectively. Together, the four transfers matched Ripple’s established practice of releasing tokens from escrow at the beginning of each month.
However, these transaction values reflect XRP’s price during execution rather than proceeds from confirmed token sales. An escrow unlock makes tokens available, but it does not establish whether Ripple distributed them or transferred them onto exchanges.
Ripple has often returned approximately 700 million to 800 million XRP from monthly releases, leaving a smaller portion outside escrow. If October follows that pattern, 200 million to 300 million XRP would remain available, although the amount requires confirmation.

Escrow Returns Will Clarify How Much XRP Ripple Retains
According to XRPScan, escrow accounts held 31,845,130,805 XRP, representing approximately 31.9% of the original supply. Additionally, the tracker listed circulating supply at 68,126,080,636 XRP, equivalent to approximately 68.1% of the original 100 billion tokens.
The same snapshot showed that transaction fees had burned 14,394,279 XRP, accounting for approximately 0.014% of the original supply. These figures describe the broader supply position, while subsequent escrow transactions will clarify how Ripple handles October’s unlocked holdings.
Ripple uses retained XRP for operational purposes, ecosystem initiatives, and other activities, while frequently returning unused portions to escrow. Consequently, any amount remaining outside escrow does not automatically represent exchange deposits or confirmed selling pressure.
October’s release follows Ripple’s regular schedule, with the final allocation depending on how much the company locks away again. Confirmed escrow returns will establish the retained amount and provide a clearer picture of XRP available beyond locked reserves.
