Crypto payment platform MoonPay has secured a key license and received approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services (NYDFS), one of the most stringent financial regulators in the U.S., granting it the green light to operate in all 50 U.S. states.
With this license, commonly known as a BitLicense, MoonPay can now offer its services to customers in New York. Until now, many crypto companies have struggled to meet New York’s high regulatory standards. This approval now means MoonPay can legally operate in every U.S. state.
The license not only enhances MoonPay’s reputation but also demonstrates its strong commitment to adhering to regulations and protecting users. It’s a significant step forward for both the company and the broader U.S. crypto industry.
A Big Move for MoonPay in the U.S.
This milestone comes shortly after MoonPay opened a U.S. headquarters in SoHo, New York City. The company is investing in its future in the American market. By meeting New York’s requirements, MoonPay’s new license opens the door to millions of potential users and strengthens the company’s position as a major player in the U.S. crypto market.
With this license in hand, MoonPay can now expand its services more freely across the nation. This is also a big win for local crypto users. It brings more reliable services and shows that the industry is moving toward greater transparency and security.
Ripple Also Gets NYDFS Approval for Stablecoin
MoonPay isn’t the only crypto company approved by New York regulators. In December 2024, the blockchain company Ripple received final approval from the NYDFS for its new stablecoin, called RLUSD.
Since gaining approval, Ripple’s RLUSD has aided its cross-border payment services. Ripple has also utilized the stablecoin to provide funding to the U.S. education sector. Earlier this month, Dubai’s regulatory authority approved the use of RLUSD in the Middle East.
